Daniel Radcliffe Once Revealed He Didn’t Talk to Emma Watson for Days After an Argument on the ‘Harry Potter’ Set
The ‘Harry Potter’ cast has gotten close with each other over the years. This is especially true with stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, who have both been with the franchise since the beginning. However, because the two are so strongly opinionated, they didn’t get along. At one point, Radcliffe even admitted they went a little too far with their war of words.
Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson only ‘fancied’ themselves on the set of this ‘Harry Potter’ movie
Despite teasing a romance between Radcliffe’s Harry Potter and Watson’s Hermione Granger in the films, their relationship was different in real life. Radcliffe shared that the two looked at each other as brother and sister, which made the thought of dating each other unappealing.
“We know it’d be everything the fans ever wanted,” Radcliffe told Esquire (via The Independent.) “I’m sorry guys, it’s not happening. It’s just not. There’s something really incestuous about the idea of it.”
But Radcliffe admitted there was a point between Harry Potter films where the cast did fancy each other.
“There was a period when we were the only boys and girls any of us knew,” Radcliffe said. “And so, you know, we were all unbelievably horny from about the third film to probably about the end of the fifth; then it all settled down.”
Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson used to clash constantly on the ‘Harry Potter’ set
As is the case with most siblings, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson would argue a lot while filming the movies. But the actor admitted there were times when things would get particularly heated between the two. In one instance, a fight led to the stars giving each other the silent treatment for days.
“Oh, God. We used to argue about everything. Religion. Politics,” Radcliffe said in an interview with Radio Times (via Contact Music). “I remember one of the big arguments we had on the fourth film – we didn’t speak to each other for a couple of days – was about… She was arguing about the Latin language, that nobody knows what it sounds like, what a Latin accent should be. And I was like, ‘Yeah, but it’s still spoken a lot in the Catholic church.’”
Radcliffe shared that the two still remained good friends after their spat. But he learned a valuable lesson about Watson that he wanted to share with others.
“Such a w**ky argument, looking back, and it got totally out of hand. She was furious; I was livid,” He said. “I certainly would advise anyone, if you’re going to debate with her, know your s***.”
How Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson reacted when they reunited for the ‘Harry Potter: 20th Anniversary’ reunion special
Both Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson had very strong feelings towards returning to the franchise several years later. The two came together for Harry Potter 20th Anniversay: Return to Hogwarts, which aired on HBO Max, along with co-star Rupert Grint. It proved to be a very emotional time for the trio.
“I felt quite overwhelmed this morning and I’ve just been quite pleasantly surprised by just getting to relive it all,” Watson said of their time together.
They also took the time to address what the series meant to them, and how much Harry Potter affected their lives.
“As a person and an actor, I feel so lucky to be where I am and to have the life that I have and to be able to work with the people I work with now, but none of it is possible without this,” Radcliffe said.
