Days of Our Lives has had some crazy villains over the years. But none have been quite as vile as Clyde Weston, the father of one Ben Weston. An abusive sociopath who also likes raping and stabbing people in his spare time, Clyde will turn up in the most unlikely places when Days returns. And at least one person isn’t going to be very happy about it.

Clyde Weston has been on ‘Days of Our Lives’ since 2014

Originally debuting on Days of Our Lives back in 2014, Clyde Weston now appears on the show on a recurring basis. His existence was first discovered when Kate began investigating Jordan Ridgeway’s past. As it turned out, Jordan’s real name was Tammy Sue Weston, and “Ben Rogers” (as he was known at the time) was really her brother, Ben Weston.

Both were the product of Clyde Weston, a vile and abusive man who regularly abused Ben and Tammy Sue from when they were children. He has a reputation for being a murderer (like when he had Miguel killed), a criminal (like when he ran an illegal gambling operation in Florida), and a cheat (like when he used his trucking company as a front for drug running).

And for good measure, he’s also a rapist. In other words, he’s a real peach of a human. Currently, he’s been sitting in jail where he belongs on a 25-to-life sentence. But we all know you can’t keep a good criminal down.

James Read is a soap veteran

Veteran soap opera actor James Read has been playing Clyde Weston since the character debuted in 2014. Best known for playing George Hazzard on the Civil War-era miniseries North & South, Read also had roles on This is Us, Murder She Wrote, and 7th Heaven.

In terms of soap operas, Read also had a role in General Hospital, where he played Gregory Chase. On the film side, Read’s most infamous role was in the two Legally Blonde movies. In both of the films, he played Elle Woods’s father.

Read also has had several theater roles, including in King Lear and The Tempest.

“When he arrives in his cell, his cellmate kind of rolls over on his bunk,” head writer Ron Carlivati said, “and we see that it’s Clyde Weston. The significance of this, as a lot of fans are aware, is that Clyde was responsible for EJ’s ‘death’ several years ago,” the scribe continues. “So when EJ comes face to face with him, we finally get to play it out.”

Something tells us that things are about to get really spicy on Days of Our Lives when the show finally returns from its Olympics hiatus.
