‘Days of our Lives’ Star, Sal Stowers, Won Cycle 9 Of ‘America’s Next Top Model’
There are plenty of stars who got their start on reality television competition shows. Eva Marcille won cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) and is now a star of Real Housewives of Atlanta. ANTM was innovative and ahead of its time for showing the cutthroat world of modeling and giving everyday dreamers the chance to compete to be part of the industry. Another model who won the series that has flourished is Sal Stowers.
Stowers won cycle 9 of the show at the age of 21 and is now a star on the daytime soap opera, Days of our Lives. She’s had a recurring role on the soap since 2015.
Sal Stowers on ‘America’s Next Top Model‘
Stowers was a standout on ANTM from the start. During her audition, it was revealed that she attended Tyra Banks’s annual summer camp, T-Zone, when she was 14. The camp is aimed to help young girls with self-esteem and body image issues. She was chosen as one of 13 finalists to compete in in the ANTM house.
During the first week of intense competition, she won a styling contest and was granted a $1,000 cash prize and ad campaign with Old Navy. Week after week, she won more mini competitions, including a trip to Paris for a future fashion show. Despite excelling in the mini-contests, Stowers struggled to fit in at the ANTM house with the other models believing she was a favorite of Banks because of their previous connection. She was also accused of having previous modeling experience.
Some of her photoshoots also came up flat, with her being deemed too commercial and not edgy enough and lacking the ability to show emotion through her eyes.
Stowers impressed judges with her acting skills as the competition progressed. She was also a judge favorite for her commitment to improving but still did not deliver the best photos.
She was ultimately crowned the winner of the competition for being considered the most versatile. Stowers won a modeling contract with Elite Model Management, a multi-page fashion spread and cover in Seventeen magazine, and a contract worth $100,000 with CoverGirl cosmetics.
Sal Stowers’s acting career takes off with ‘Days of our Lives’
After winning the competition, Stowers did a few magazine spreads for publications including InTouch Weekly and Essence Magazine. Stowers also participated in print and ad campaigns for fashion brands including Beyoncés Dereon, Nelly’s Apple Bottoms, and Kimora Lee Simmons’s Baby Phat.
She expanded her love of acting and experience doing a few commercials while competing on ANTM for guest roles in shows like Ugly Betty. From there she dived into acting while also continuing to model as she booked gigs. In 2013, she was cast in the daytime soap opera All My Children before joining Days of our Lives as a regular in 2015 as Lani Price.
“So beyond excited and honored to announce that I have joined the Emmy-winning cast of Days Of Our Lives,” she said in a social media announcement at the time she joined the series.
Her character was introduced as a new police cadet in the town before revealing herself to be the illegitimate daughter of Mayor Abe Carver and his ex, Tamara Price. Price is driven and determined to do what’s right, including helping to bring down another character responsible for committing heinous crimes.
