Fans have been speculating how John Constantine would leave The CW‘s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow after producers announced that the character would depart after season 6. And in true John Constantine fashion, he left just as he came — a lonely scoundrel.

What was John Constantine’s fate in the alien invasion?

Technically, Constantine died on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 Episode 14. Bishop tricked Constantine into drinking poison, which then killed the Fountain of Imperium. But it was hard to take his death seriously because, like Sara Lance, it’s hard to keep Constantine dead indefinitely. As Gary said on the season 6 finale, “The Fungus Amongus,” John Constantine is John Constantine, meaning it’s hard to keep him down.

By the end of the episode, we learned, from the man himself, that Constantine had come back to life when the Legends restored the Fountain and saved the world. Plus, John got his magic back by selling his soul to a demon in Hell. And just like that, he is back to the man we all know from the comic books instead of a team player and a man in love.

According to Matt Ryan’s interview with ComicBook.com, it was important for Constantine to get back to his roots. Ryan stated, “The one thing I said to the showrunners and the writers is, I agreed that it was time for him to leave, and I just said, ‘Don’t let him go out all happy and good. I think that that is represented in the way that he goes out, in a way. It’s very John Constantine.”

Constantine’s story truly did come full circle. And while Constantine is back to his old ways, it’s hard to dispute that he was changed forever by the Legends and Zari. But where does his story go from here?

Will fans see Constantine again in the Arrowverse?

Of course, the door is always open to having John Constantine or any other character return to the Arrowverse. That is what the huge crossovers do best, after all. However, we can only speculate if and when that will happen.

The ending to the story of this version of John Constantine was pretty perfect for the character. At least for the time being, it’s safe to say that the producers of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and the powers that be in the Arrowverse won’t have Constantine return for a while. They don’t want to undo all the work they just did for Constantine’s character.

But you never know when he might pop up to perform a spell to help the Arrowverse characters defeat a demon. For now, there’s a new character with a familiar face joining the Legends.

Who will Matt Ryan be playing in ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ Season 7?

While John Constantine has left DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the actor who portrayed him, Matt Ryan, will be sticking around for a bit.

It was announced at Comic-Con @ Home 2021 that Matt Ryan would be playing a different character in season 7. The character’s name is Dr. Gwyn Davies, an eccentric scientist from the early 20th century.

According to his character description, Dr. Davies could be the Legends’ only hope. Perhaps this could be referring to the ending of the season 6 finale when a ship entered the atmosphere and blew up the Waverider. But fans will just have to wait and see how Ryan’s new character fits into the show.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns with season 7 on October 13 on The CW.
