Demi Lovato Fans Compared Her Ex-Fiance Max Ehrich to 1 Controversial TV Character
Singer Demi Lovato has made many headlines in 2020 for her relationship with actor Max Ehrich. While there were plenty of positive stories about their whirlwind romance, others point to a history of behavior on Ehrich’s part that has Lovato’s fans worried about her. Here’s who they thought Ehrich was like.
Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich got engaged in 2020
Lovato and Ehrich began dating in March 2020, just as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic struck. During this time, they started living together. They confirmed their relationship a couple of months later when they appeared in the music video for Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s music video for their song “Stuck with U.”
Ehrich and Lovato spent another couple of months showing off their relationship on social media. Then, in July 2020, around the anniversary of her 2018 overdose, Ehrich proposed (following rumors that he planned to do so). They called off their engagement two months later.
Lovato responds to criticism of her relationship
Amidst Lovato and Ehrich’s celebration came concerns from her fans (known as Lovatics), who took issue with her fiance’s past. As Showbiz Cheat Sheet reported, social media posts shared as recently as 2018 appear to show Ehrich’s affection for Selena Gomez, Lovato’s former friend, leading fans to believe he’s only after her fame.
While some of these screenshots circulated while they were dating, Lovato didn’t address them until after she was engaged. In response to a particular set, the singer deemed them “fake” and “doctored” while pinning the blame in part on the media for perpetuating these rumors. Around this time, Ehrich deactivated his Twitter account.
The singer did a Q&A with collaborator Marshmello
Lovato has many other elements in her life to focus on, such as her music. She’s spoken about her upcoming as-yet-untitled seventh album, which has evolved and changed throughout the year. Following the release of her collaboration with Marshmello, “OK Not to Be OK,” Lovato took to Twitter to respond to some fans.
The artist responded to one Twitter user who shared how they’d spent their recent months working on their “emotional and physical health. mental health. “Yes!! Working on ‘you’ is sooo important,” Lovato responded. “This has been my focus of 2020 while everything else around us has been unpredictable.”
Lovatics compared Ehrich to Joe from ‘You’
The quotes around the word “you” prompted one Twitter user to draw an interesting connection. “Watch ‘You’ on Netflix ladies,” they tweeted. You is a psychological thriller series on the streaming service that follows a man, Joe, who stalks women he’s obsessed with, which often leads to death.
The Twitter user also shared side-by-side comparisons of Ehrich and actor Penn Badgley, who portrays Joe. Though they may look alike, the point here seems to be that Ehrich has traits in common with the character. Lovato and Ehrich might have met via social media after he “liked” an Instagram post of hers, and she followed him back on the platform.
