How Many of Demi Lovato’s Most Popular Collaborations Include Ex Joe Jonas?
Singer Demi Lovato collaborated with JoJo on a remix of her song “Lonely Hearts,” released on August 28, 2020. She’s no stranger to working with other musicians — in fact, in the early days of her career, she often sang with Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, who she briefly dated.
Lovato is now engaged to actor Max Ehrich, and Jonas is a new father to daughter Willa with actor Sophie Turner. And though their friendship has waned in recent years, the music of their Disney Channel days lives on. The following are their highest-charting songs together.
‘This Is Me’
Lovato and Jonas met when she auditioned for the Disney Channel sitcom Jonas in 2007. While she didn’t get the part, they soon got their chance to work together, starring in the first Camp Rock film, which premiered in June 2008. As it was a musical, they naturally sang together.
“This Is Me,” from the Camp Rock soundtrack, quickly charted on the Billboard Hot 100. It peaked at No. 9 on July 11, 2008, and spent seven weeks on the chart. Several years later, in 2016, Jonas surprised Lovato on stage during a concert, and they reprised their duet.
‘On the Line’
At the same time that Lovato was preparing for her Disney Channel Original Movie debut, she worked on her first album with Disney’s Hollywood Records, Don’t Forget. Not only did she tour with the Jonas and his brothers, Nick and Kevin, in support of it, but they also worked with her on her album.
Among the six Don’t Forget tracks the Jonas Brothers co-wrote was one on which all four artists sing. “On the Line” spent just one week on the Billboard Hot 100, just making it on at No. 100. However, other songs they contributed to, like singles “Don’t Forget,” “La La Land,” and “Get Back,” charted higher and longer.
‘Send It On’
In addition to working acting, working on their own music, and recording songs for their respective series and movies, Disney Channel stars at the time were also called upon to perform tunes for Disney as a whole. The Disney’s Friends For Change initiative led to a few of these songs.
“Send It On,” featuring all the Jonas Brothers and Lovato, plus fellow Disney stars Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, was a part of this. The collaboration peaked at No. 20 on August 28, 2009, spending five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The money made from the song went to environmental organizations.
‘Make a Wave’
Ahead of the release of their Camp Rock sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, Lovato and Jonas began dating. They also collaborated on another Disney’s Friends For Change Song, titled “Make a Wave,” which spent one week on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 84.
This was among the last songs Lovato and Jonas recorded together during their time with Disney. They broke up but remained friends, and she joined the Jonas Brothers on their 2010 tour. However, in November of that year, Lovato left the tour, entering rehab for the first time.
