There’s nothing like a possible musical collaboration — especially amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic — to get people excited. In August 2020, fans of singer Demi Lovato and DJ Marshmello have learned of a possible music video, which could be in support of a teased song from the past. Here’s what we know.

Demi Lovato has been recording her seventh album

Since getting her start on the Disney Channel, Lovato has put out six albums: Don’t ForgetHere We Go AgainUnbrokenDemiConfident, and Tell Me You Love Me. All have been released — at least in part — through Disney’s Hollywood Records. Now, it’s been almost three years since her last album, the longest gap since her career began.

But Lovato has made it clear that ever since she signed with Scooter Braun in 2019, she’s been back on track with her seventh album. In 2020, she has released two solo singles, “Anymore” and “I Love Me,” and one collaboration with Sam Smith, “I’m Ready.”

Following her release with Smith, Lovato’s Instagram feed began to focus more on her personal life. Just a few months after making her relationship with actor Max Ehrich Instagram official, the couple got engaged. But she can multitask — a couple of days later, she was spotted filming something.

“So Demi Lovato and Marshmello are making a music video in front of my parents house they’re gonna be famous,” wrote a Twitter user, Jackie. They then shared photos, which clearly show both musicians, adding, “Here’s what I got since people want proof.”

The producer later teased it

For those more familiar with Lovato, Marshmello is the stage name of electronic music producer Christopher Comstock. His name comes from the helmet he wears. Marshmello is working on his fourth album. He previously collaborated with Lovato’s former friend, Selena Gomez, on her 2017 single, “Wolves.”

On August 3, 2020, Marshmello shared the above photo on Instagram. According to Billboard, the caption initially read, “hello? demi?” While he later edited it to simply read, “hello?” it’s still possibly a tease — after all, the woman in the background looks a lot like Lovato.

It may not be the collab fans think

Fans have been waiting on this collaboration since 2017, when the above was first shared but not officially released. However, this could be a new song. “Update: I got a sent a demo for something called love don’t let me go and my mom listened to it,” Jackie wrote on Twitter. “She says it’s definitely not the song and she heard a line that goes “everything’s gonna be ok” while they filmed.

While the song may be unknown at the time of publication, the video’s director may be Hannah Lux Davis, who worked with Lovato on the “I Love Me” music video. After a fan sent Jackie’s brother a photo of Davis, they replied on Twitter, “My parents said that looks like who they saw directing.”
