Demi Lovato Reveals Which Movie Scene Made Her Realize She’s Sexually Fluid
Sometimes movies help us realize things about ourselves and what’s possible. Demi Lovato revealed there is a movie scene that made her interested in kissing another girl. She revealed how that led to her eventually exploring her sexuality.
Demi Lovato came out as sexually fluid
The singer was seen dating men publicly in the past. But she talked about coming out to her parents as being sexually fluid.
“I didn’t tell my parents that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman, too, until 2017,” Lovato told Andy Cohen. “It was actually, like, emotional but really beautiful,” she said. “After everything was done, I was, like, shaking and crying, and I just felt overwhelmed.”
The singer said her father wasn’t surprised, but she was nervous about her mother’s reaction. “I just want you to be happy,” Lovato said her mother told her.
She said ‘Cruel Intentions’ was a wakeup call
The movie Cruel Intentions showed step-siblings Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) making a bet on if he could successfully seduce Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon). There is a memorable scene where Gellar and Selma Blair’s characters kiss.
“It was definitely when I was young and should not have been watching Cruel Intentions but I did, and it was that scene where they made out on the park lawn,” Lovato said during Coming Out 2020, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I was just like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. I really like that.’ I was like, ‘I want to try it!'”
However, she said it took more time for her to fully realize her sexuality. “And then, when I was like, 17, I did get down with that, and that’s when I knew. You want the tea? That’s it!” she said.
Lovato is single again after a short engagement
The pop star has been open about her love life recently. She was engaged to Young and the Restless actor Max Ehrich but it ended two months after he proposed.
“It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” a source told People. “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”
Lovato hasn’t released a statement about the breakup. But Ehrich has been posting on Instagram about it.
“To this moment… we haven’t spoken over the phone… we haven’t even officially ended anything to each ohter, literally. I’m here in real time with y’all. I love Demetria and just want her to be healthy and safe,” he claimed according to Entertainment Tonight.
Lovato did release a new song called “Still Have Me.” She tweeted on the day of the release, “Music is always there for me… song in the am.”
