Demi Moore Thinks Her Age Difference With Ashton Kutcher Contributed to Their Divorce
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher were in a relationship from 2003-2011. They officially divorced in 2013, despite Moore doing everything she could to save their marriage. But according to her recently published memoir, Inside Out, several factors ultimately led to their divorce. One of the reasons, she reveals, was their age difference.
What is the age difference between Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher?
As Moore reveals in her memoir, there is a fifteen-year age difference between the former couple. But according to the Ghost star, they couldn’t feel any sort of gap in their relationship.
“He was twenty-five,” she writes. “I was forty. But I’m telling you: we couldn’t feel it. We were totally in sync from our very first conversation.”
She mentions how when she was his age, she had already been married with kids.
“Keep in mind, when I was twenty-five, I became a mom,” she said. “I skipped straight from being a young adult into motherhood and marriage. When I met Ashton, it almost felt like a do-over, like I could just go back in time and experience what it was like to be young with him- much more so than I’d ever been able to experience it when I was actually in my twenties.”
Demi Moore thinks her age difference with the ‘Punk’d’ star contributed to their split
According to Moore’s memoir, multiple factors led to her divorce from Kutcher. As she reveals, her struggles with addiction along with Kutcher’s cheating scandals ultimately severed their union.
But one factor that she didn’t really consider until later was their age difference. As Moore admits, they were in two totally different stages in life.
“When I met the man of my dreams, trying to stay close to him became my addiction,” she writes. “Ashton had seemed like the answer to my prayers. But when we met, I had the experience and the preparation to be really committed. For him, it was still the journey- he was still figuring out who he was.”
“The thing I didn’t fully take into consideration was when Ashton and I were falling in love is that what was magical to me and what was magical to him might not have been the same thing,” she continues. “I felt connection, communion. He was stepping off a private plane for the first time and coming into my home, my family, which I’d long since created, and I had a body of well-known work in a very field he aspired to conquer.”
“I was a forty-year-old who had had a big life, with a big ex-husband and three children,” says Moore. “Ashton’s adult life was just beginning- both his personal life and his career. I didn’t see all that because I was inside of it. I just felt like a fifteen-year-old girl hoping somebody liked me.”
Demi Moore anticipated the media frenzy that was due to their age gap
According to Moore, she knew that the media would be all over their relationship because of their significant age gap.
“The response to our relationship was every bit as frenzied as I’d anticipated, maybe even more so,” she writes. “We were in the tabloids constantly; we couldn’t leave the house without being photographed.”
And according to Moore, her agents warned her against the relationship because they thought no one would take her seriously for dating a younger man.
“My agents said that my relationship was hurting me: all the focus on me being with a younger man meant that people weren’t taking me seriously,” says Moore. “I didn’t care. I’d never been so happy in my life.”
