‘Demon Slayer’: Does Tengen Uzui Die in the Manga?
Demon Slayer Season 2 kicked off its Entertainment District Arc with plenty of humor, but things are heating up in recent episodes. The anime just set up a fight between Tengen Uzui and an unexpected antagonist. And after the Mugen Train Arc’s tragic ending, fans may be wondering: does Tengen die in the Demon Slayer manga?

‘Demon Slayer’ Season 2 just introduced a major threat
Episode 7 of Demon Slayer‘s Entertainment District Arc saw Tengen Uzui arriving just in time to save Nezuko and Tanjiro from Daki. And although the Sound Hashira scoffed at what seemed like weakness from the Upper Moon 6, he soon realized there was more to that title than he expected.
It seems the Upper Rank Six belongs to two demons who operate “as one”: Daki and her brother, Gyutaro. Gyutaro has already proven himself a powerful opponent. And with a fight between him and Tengen approaching, fans may be wondering if the Sound Hashira will survive the second season.
After all, Rengoku perished at the end of the Mugen Train Arc, leaving a heavy wave of grief over Tanjiro and his friends. Will Tengen face a similar fate at the end of the current storyline?
Does Tengen Uzui die in the ‘Demon Slayer’ manga?
Those worried about Tengen Uzui’s fate in Demon Slayer Season 2 can breathe a sigh of relief. In Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga series, the Sound Hashira survives his encounter with the Upper Moon 6 — though he doesn’t leave it entirely unscathed. In fact, he loses an eye and a hand during his confrontation with Gyutaro.
But while Tengen moves past the events of season 2, he doesn’t make it through the whole Demon Slayer manga. Following a time skip later on, the Sound Hashira passes away. The series never specifies how he dies, so it’s probably safe to assume it was from natural causes. It definitely beats perishing at the hands of a demon.
What happens to Tengen Uzui after the Entertainment District Arc?
While anime-only fans will no doubt celebrate that Tengen Uzui survives the Entertainment District Arc, it’s worth noting that the character leaves the Demon Slayer Corps. His injuries force him to retire from the organization. He’s one of the few Demon Slayers to do so — and the only one to leave their ranks because of a disability.
That means the anime’s current arc will likely have a bittersweet ending. It’s a relief Tanjiro and his friends won’t have to watch another mentor die in front of them. However, they won’t get to work alongside him again either.
At least Tengen will have one last chance to prove how flashy he is before his time with the Hashira is through.
Demon Slayer Season 2 is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.
