Denise Richards From ‘RHOBH’ Shares How She Stays Thin but Still Drinks Alcohol
When Denise Richards from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills shared she had a medical scare, a fan wanted to know how she stayed so thin despite all the cast parties and drinking.
Richards discovered she had four hernias and had to have emergency surgery to correct the problem. She was in pain for quite some time and is finally healing. “Being a mom, wife, & having a career sometimes it’s easier to just be strong and power through, I thought the pain & my other symptoms would just go away. They did not and got a lot worse. I’m so grateful to @herniadoc & her fabulous team,” she shared. “I thought I had one femoral hernia, I actually had 2 femoral & 2 inguinal. And I waited way too long & didn’t even tell my husband how bad I was feeling (I know it was stupid) … gotta always listen to our bodies & take care of ourselves.”
In addition to her commentary, Richards shared a few photos. She also posted a photo of her stomach post-op. Her bruised belly shows surgical tape in three different spots. But one fan couldn’t help but notice her flat abs.
How does she maintain such flat abs?
A fan asked in the post how she manages to drink alcohol but still have a flat stomach. “Will you be candid with your fans and please (🙏🏼) tell us how your abs are that flat if you drink booze?! The only women in Hollywood with zero fat on their abs don’t drink tequila like you do so what’s your secret?!?! Sell me the secret, we are all dying to know,” the fan wrote.
Richards quickly obliged and shared that she only drinks tequila. “tequila is clean & I know my limit 😂Looks more on rhobh but thank you for the compliment,” she replied. “I actually had gained weight prior to my surgery I didn’t feel good at all from this issue and certainly couldn’t work out. I also had a thyroid issue and recently cut gluten and made other changes and it’s helped with not only my thyroid but my abs❤️.”
According to Healthline, drinking alcohol can lead to more fat around the middle. “The ‘beer gut’ isn’t just a myth,” according to the site. “Foods high in simple sugars, such as those found in candy, soda, and even beer, are also high in calories. Extra calories end up stored as fat in the body. Consuming foods and drinks high in sugar can quickly lead to weight gain. We can’t choose where all that extra weight ends up. But the body tends to accumulate fat in the abdominal area.”

Healthline shared that dieters who want to imbibe should consider drinking one of five hard liquors. Vodka, whiskey, tequila, and brandy all have 100 calories per 1.5 ounces. Also, gin is an option at 115 calories per 1.5 ounces.
Also, opt for club soda or a shot rather than consuming a sugary drink. Ramona Singer from The Real Housewives of New York City used to be all about her pinot grigio wine. But now she sticks to her “hydrating” vodka sodas. “I’m not drinking so much wine anymore,” she told US Weekly. “I’m drinking vodka.” But added, “I love my wine. Don’t get me wrong, I still drink the wine but I start off with the vodka.”
