Dennis Quaid Says He Still Loves Meg Ryan Despite Their Messy Divorce
It’s been years since Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid was one of Hollywood’s hottest A-list couples. The pair wed in 1991, and their marriage crumbled 10 years later when Ryan was caught having an affair with Russell Crowe.
However, that’s not the only reason why the marriage ended. In fact, Quaid says he still loves Ryan despite their messy divorce.

With two stunning actors together, especially one who had starred in romantic comedies like Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally, Ryan and Quaid’s romance seemed picturesque. However, we now know that it was far from perfect. Quaid dealt with alcoholism and substance abuse, and the You’ve Got Mail star has also revealed that her then-husband was unfaithful to her throughout their marriage.
“Dennis was not faithful to me for a long time, and that was very painful,” the City of Angels star explained to Today in 2008. “I found out more about that once I was divorced.”
In the years since their split, Quaid has also gotten candid about how he contributed to the downfall of his marriage to Ryan. He told the Independent,
When we started, I was very much on top. She was just starting out. Then she had When Harry Met Sally and I took time out and the roles were suddenly reversed in terms of where we were at, in our careers. I’m too big of a person to really let that bother me and it wasn’t her fault. I was glad for her, but at the same time it really made it hit home where I was at myself, the direction things were headed.

Toward the end of Ryan and Quaid’s marriage, they were both very unhappy, and the French Kiss actor struck up an affair with her Proof of Life co-star Russell Crowe. Though there were already issues in her marriage to Quaid, she was painted as a cheater in the media. She explained to Today.com,
I’d never felt like I was all that concerned with what people thought of me, but then that story never got told right. I felt the effect, like I was the bad guy or whatever the story was. But I remember letting go of needing to correct anybody. I think he took a big hit. But Russell didn’t break up the marriage. He was definitely there at the end, but it wasn’t his fault. I was a mess – I hurt him, too, at the end. I couldn’t be in another long relationship, it wasn’t the time for that. So I got out.

Now, some 20 years after their divorce, Quaid and Ryan have both moved on. Ryan is focused on her children, including The Boys actor Jack Quaid whom she shares with The Parent Trap star. Meanwhile, Quaid is newly married to Ph.D. student Laura Savoie.
With so much time that has passed since the demise of their relationship, Quaid reveals that he has no ill-feelings toward Ryan, in fact, he says he still loves her very much.
“Sure, I still love her,” Quaid told Independent. “I’m very fond of her, and we have a lot of fun. We spent 13 good years together. We had a kid together, and we shared so much: she made my life.”
