Peter Gunz was once a reigning topic of conversation on Love & Hip Hop: New York when he was cheating on two women and beefing with his friends. Even Cardi B told him off.
During the height of his infamy, he shared a story about running into Denzel Washington and what the actor said to him.
Peter Gunz had a notorious run on ‘Love & Hip Hop’
Peter Gunz is experiencing a resurgence in pop culture right now thanks to his new gig as the host of Cheaters.
Fans are getting a kick out of that because he seems like the perfect ironic pick for the job. For the sake of LHH nostalgia, it’s necessary to revisit the mess he created with Tara Wallace and Amina Buddafly.
Peter and Wallace were together for 13 years when they were introduced on the show, and things went downhill after everyone learned he was cheating on her with Amina. When Tara met Amina for the first time, she slapped the singer after finding out they were secretly married.
In the aftermath, Peter said, “I don’t have no plans on leaving Amina, and but I also don’t have plans on leaving Tara.” This stretched out for multiple seasons with numerous break-ups, reconciliations, an ongoing cheating triangle, and both women getting pregnant.
For a while, he was one of the most reviled cast members in the LHH fandom.
Denzel Washington called Peter Gunz out
During a 2016 interview with Angie Martinez, Peter Gunz rehashed all the drama with the women in his real life and on the show.
He told Martinez that strangers generally didn’t approach him to talk smack about his antics on the show, but there was one time Denzel Washington caught him off guard.
He shared that he and Wallace were out one night and happened to run into the legendary actor. “I was in a comedy club with Tara one night and Denzel Washington came behind us,” said Gunz. He added he has pictures as proof and further, Washington watches Love & Hip Hop.
“He told Tara, ‘You’ve gotta kick his as*. That boy’s crazy!’ I said, ‘You watch the show?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, what am I gonna do? Just watch movies?’” Gunz said Washington advised Tara to “Keep kicking his as*.”
They had a short conversation, snapped some photos, and parted ways.

For those wondering about an update, Amina Buddafly divorced Gunz and now lives in Los Angeles with her two daughters. She sought therapy after the split and is now doing well.
As for Wallace, she was featured on VH1’s Unveiled and said she co-parents with her ex and speaks to Buddafly on occasion.
Gunz appeared on his own segment of Unveiled where he said he has a new girlfriend. He is on friendly terms with both exes and can be seen weekly on Cheaters.
