Who Is Detroit Lions Running Back David Montgomery’s Girlfriend Tatum Causey?
After playing his college football for the Iowa State Cyclones, David Montgomery was selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. The running back signed a four-year contract with the team but left after the 2022 season and inked a deal with the NFC North rival Detroit Lions.
With his new team, Montgomery represents one-half of the Lions’ “Sonic and Knuckles” duo along with fellow running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Montgomery’s “Knuckles” nickname derives from the popular Sonic the Hedgehog video game series referencing his power, while Gibbs is known as “Sonic” for his speed.
In August 2024, Montgomery made headlines for something that had nothing to do with his play on the field. Instead, the news involved his girlfriend and their pit bull. Here’s more about that and Montgomery’s partner, Tatum Causey.
What Tatum Causey does for a living
Tatum Causey was born on March 24, 1997, in Phoenix, Arizona to parents Jill and Mike Causey. Her father is the vice president of Captive Business Development at Berkley Accident & Health of Berkley Accident and Health in Arizona. Tatum has one sibling, Cameron Causey.
Tatum graduated in 2015 from Pinnacle High School. She attended Iowa State University and in 2019, received her Bachelor’s Degree focused on Child, Adult, and Family Services.
Up until 2023, Tatum worked as a Youth Development Professional and Teen Coordinator at the Boys & Girls Club of America. Tatum was also the Program Coordinator at the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs. She’s currently a Donor Relations Associate at the Community Renewal Society.
When Tatum and Montgomery met and how many children they have together
Tatum and Montgomery are college sweethearts. They met and began dating when they were both 19 and students at Iowa State University. There have been rumors that the couple tied the knot but neither of them have ever confirmed that.
After Montgomery signed with the Lions, Tatum has been spotted at several games cheering on her partner.
The pair welcomed their first child on Jan. 13, 2023.
The couple’s dog attacked another canine causing severe leg injuries
Tatum and Montgomery also had a pit bull mix named Lola.
In June 2023, Lola reportedly escaped the family’s Grosse Pointe Shores Michigan home and attacked a cockapoo outside on the sidewalk.
In police body camera footage, obtained by TMZ, Tatum detailed the incident telling the officer that Lola got out while she was in the backyard.
The smaller dog suffered severe leg injuries; one so bad that it had to be amputated. According to a lawsuit filed by the owners walking that pooch, they also sustained bite wounds and lacerations trying to get their dog away from Lola.
The cookopoo’s owner, Mike Owen, supported a proposed ban of Lola’s breed in his town saying: “No one else in this room has been on the ground, screaming for his life. I have zero feeling now on the side of my hand. My three-legged dog tries to walk and falls on her face after three surgeries and $16,000. It’s been absolute hell.”
Eventually, Montgomery and Tatum agreed to have Lola euthanized.
