‘Dexter’ Cast Reunites at Special Event
It’s probably been a while since you’ve seen the Dexter cast together. Of course, there was Dexter: New Blood, the revival series that finished on Showtime earlier in the year. But that didn’t bring all the original actors back together. They did, however, come together over the weekend of March 11 for a special fan event.
The ‘Dexter’ cast recently reunited
As the website Dexter Daily notes, the cast of Dexter reunited at the Monster-Mania convention in New Jersey. According to the website, Monster-Mania is an event celebrating “horror’s hottest stars” and gives attendees the chance to meet and take photos with celebrity guests.
The Dexter cast — which includes Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan), Jennifer Carpenter (Debra Morgan), James Remar (Harry Morgan), David Zayas (Angel Batista), C.S. Lee (Vince Masuka), and Erik King (James Doakes) — will all appear through the weekend. Photos from the event were shared by Dexter Daily and on other websites such as Reddit.
Dexter launched on Showtime in 2006 and, throughout eight seasons, told the story of a crime scene investigator who was secretly one of the most brutal and prolific serial killers in Miami history. Though the show was lauded by critics in its earlier seasons, it alternated in quality toward the end.
The series would eventually end in 2013 with one of the most controversial finales ever, with Dexter faking his death and moving in isolation to become a lumberjack.
‘Dexter: New Blood’ brought back some of the ‘Dexter’ cast, but not everyone
It was the negative reception to the Dexter series finale that motivated Showtime to bring the series back. Dexter: New Blood began in November of 2021 and picked up on Dexter’s life almost a decade later. He was now living in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York, where he had a regular life as firearms dealer Jim Lindsay. But after the sudden return of his son, Harrison Morgan, everything fell apart.
Dexter: New Blood, unfortunately, ended on a controversial note as well. But those involved in the show stand by what happened.
“The way the season concludes is one that resonates with me,” Hall told The Los Angeles Times. “It feels justifiable. As upsetting as it may be, I hope audiences will appreciate the resonance of Dexter dying this way at the hands of his son.”
He continued: “People moaned about an ending that was admittedly open-ended and without any sense of closure. I guess you have to be careful what you wish for,” he added, smiling.
Will there be more ‘Dexter’?
It may be the end for Dexter, but what about his son? Could there be a Harrison spinoff? When asked about the possibility, Dexter: New Blood creator Clyde Phillips said he’d be open to it. But the decision isn’t up to him.
“It’s up to Showtime to make the call to me if they want more,” he told Deadline. “If they ask me if I’d like to make a continuation of this, I would say yes. I have a lot of things going on but I would drop everything for this and say yes in one second.”
