‘Dexter’ Fans React After Yvonne Strahovski Says She’s Not in the Revival
Yvonne Strahovski will always be remembered for playing Hannah McKay on Dexter, but the actor isn’t coming back for the revival. Despite past speculation that she would return to the show, Strahovski said in an interview that she’s not. Her comments prompted many reactions from fans who took to social media to share their thoughts.
Yvonne Strahovski on why she’s not coming back to ‘Dexter’
Strahovski was on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen when she was asked whether she’s involved in Dexter Season 9.
“I’m so sorry to break it to everybody, but I haven’t heard anything about the reboot,” she replied. “So it doesn’t seem that Hannah McKay’s making a return. I have a theory that perhaps, um, perhaps uh Harrison has already murdered her and is following in the footsteps of his father. I don’t know. I don’t know anything.”
The news came as a shock to some, but not everyone. Taking to Reddit, one person wrote, “Her character was hated by the fanbase and why would she come back to a show where she was hated.”
Another fan agreed, saying: “[I] wasn’t expecting her to return given how the vast majority of the Dexter (tv show) fanbase seem to hate her. Still, I’m curious how they’re going to resolve the whole Harrison situation without her appearing.”
“I’m glad this has been finally addressed,” read a third message. “Relieved that she is not returning. Yvonne deserves better than the toxicity of some Dexter fans. She is doing pretty well for herself. I’m sure she has prospects lined up that will make better use of her time and talents.”
But others were truly sad that she’s gone.
“Personally, I would rather have her back for an episode or two than Harrison,” read one comment.
“I want her to [come back] so bad!” said another. “I’m excited for it regardless but I’ll definitely be really disappointed if she doesn’t. Yes I know, unpopular opinion haha.”
As it turns out, she’s not the only one who isn’t returning
Strahovski joins a growing list of actors who seemingly aren’t returning to the show, including Julia Stiles (Lumen Pierce) and James Remar (Harry Morgan). Remar even claimed in a video shared in May that none of the original cast members were invited to appear in the revival.
“They didn’t ask any of the original cast back, so I don’t know what they’re doing…” he said in the clip, which was re-posted to Reddit. “I really have no idea. It’s too bad because all of us wanted to go back. But, you know, it’s their show, so they’re gonna do what they wanna do.”
However, Dexter newcomer Jamie Chung contracted his claims when she told People the revival features “a lot of familiar” faces. She didn’t name anyone, but there has been lots of speculation that Jennifer Carpenter (Debra Morgan) might pop up, possibly as the voice inside of Dexter’s head. As of writing, Carpenter has not directly commented on whether she’s involved in the revival.
What we do know is that Dexter will be 10 years older in a new city with new people, including villain Kurt Caldwell, who TVLine describes as a beloved community man with a bit of a dark side.
“He realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop,” Caldwell’s character description says, per TVLine. “Powerful, generous, loved by everyone — he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”
