‘Dexter: New Blood’ Boss Reveals Angela’s Fate After the Finale
Showrunner Clyde Phillips has confirmed Angela Bishop’s fate in Dexter: New Blood. The serial-killer vigilante series finished its 10-episode run in January, with a finale that concluded the story of Dexter Morgan but left questions surrounding other characters.
In the episode, Harrison Morgan shot and killed Dexter and fled town with assistance from Angela, after she called the shooting in as an officer-involved shooting. Phillips spoke more in an interview about the moment and what will happen to Angela after those events.
What exactly happened in the ‘Dexter: New Blood’ finale
For those who haven’t watched the episode, Phillips went over it in an interview with Deadline. The episode was released on Jan. 9 and found Dexter in jail after Angela arrested him for the murder of Matt Caldwell.
Knowing he could gain additional charges in Florida, where he could face the death penalty, Dexter killed Officer Logan in a bid to escape jail. After breaking out of his cell, he called Harrison from Logan’s phone and told him they needed to meet and flee Iron Lake ASAP.
At the meet spot, Harrison was surprised when Dexter showed up with blood on his shirt and questioned where it came from. When Dexter admitted it belonged to Logan, who was also Harrison’s beloved wrestling coach, Harrison flipped out and pulled a gun on him.
He was emotional as he called Dexter out for his hypocrisy regarding the code and the pain he continued to cause him, getting Dexter to finally understand the impact of his actions. The next thing viewers knew, Dexter was telling Harrison to take the safety off and pull the trigger.
Harrison shot Dexter just as Angela showed up. She told him he needed to leave, gave him the money in her pocket, and sent him on his way before calling Dexter’s death in to police.
Phillips confirmed Angela’s fate
Asked about the fate of Harrison and Angela, Phillips said he hasn’t yet worked out what’ll happen to Harrison. But when it comes to Angela, he confirmed she’ll claim responsibility for Dexter’s murder.
“If you recall, she calls in an officer-involved shooting,” he told Deadline. “She’s going to say that she had to take out Dexter because there’s lots of evidence he murdered Logan and because Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher. And Dexter probably killed Matt, though she’s not sure she can prove that.”
He continued: “We know that the FBI and CSI and all of these people are coming to town and she’s going to have to deal with all of that. She’s going to have to talk about Dexter and she’s gonna have to talk about Logan. She’s probably going to lie and say she had to kill Dexter in self-defense. Let’s not forget, this was her lover. She trusted this guy and she could’ve been another victim.”
There’s no doubt that this will be a hard time for Angela. But now that Dexter’s gone, hopefully, she has solace and can begin moving forward.
The possibility of ‘Dexter: New Blood’ Season 2
Meanwhile, Harrison is still out there, which presents an opportunity to continue his story. While Showtime has yet to comment on the future of the show, Phillips told Deadline he would “say yes in one second” if asked to do more episodes.
“This show is a huge asset,” he explained. “When people start bingeing this after the finale, I’m confident the numbers will continue to go up. It’s up to Showtime to make the call to me if they want more. If they ask me if I’d like to make a continuation of this, I would say yes. I have a lot of things going on but I would drop everything for this and say yes in one second.”
Dexter: New Blood is available now on Showtime.
