‘Dexter: New Blood’: Will Dexter Go Back to Miami?
As Dexter: New Blood draws to a close, the Internet is rife with rumors and theories trying to predict what will happen.
Starring Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, the show jumps forward almost a decade after he faked his death and went into hiding, finding Dexter living in Upstate New York under an assumed name. He has a normal life with a job and a girlfriend, but his plans are disrupted by the return of Harrison Morgan, the son he left behind before fleeing Miami.
The story is set to end on Sunday, Jan. 9, when the Dexter: New Blood finale airs. But before that, let’s talk about the prediction that Dexter will return to Miami.
The predictions for ‘Dexter: New Blood’ include his potential return to his hometown
Dexter’s potential return to Miami is one of the many ideas that fans have for the revival. Dexter escaped the city after faking his death without ever facing charges for his crimes. But he makes a series of moves in Dexter: New Blood that once again catches police attention.
After learning local businessman Kurt Caldwell is secretly a serial killer, a cat and mouse game between them ensues. Kurt is on the hunt for Dexter at the same time for killing his son Matt, who had killed five in a boating accident, culminating in a showdown described as one of the best since the Trinity Killer drama in Dexter Season 4.
What’s going to happen to Dexter?
Some fans writing on Reddit believe Dexter will ultimately go free and resume his life in Miami with Harrison now that he’s come clean about his past. Others believe Dexter might be extradited to Miami to face charges for his murders — something that looks especially likely given Angela Bishop’s recent findings about him.
It’s uncertain if either option will happen, but showrunner Clyde Phillips teased the finale would “blow up the Internet.”
“[It] will be stunning, shocking, surprising, unexpected, and without jinxing anything, I will say that the ending of this new season that we’re doing will blow up the Internet,” he said during a panel discussion at Comic-Con 2021.
We’d argue that Dexter finally getting caught would check all of those boxes. Phillips also said his idea for the original series finale was to have Dexter on death row in Miami for his crimes. But it’s unclear if that’s the plan for the new show.
Watch the series now on Showtime
We guess fans will just have to keep watching to see how everything pans out. The finale of Dexter: New Blood will air on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET on Jan. 9. But Phillips also hasn’t ruled out the possibility of another season.
“Let me say this to answer that: Never say never,” he told TV’s Top Five. “I could’ve said yes or no. I’m saying never say never. Anything can happen and I’m not going to commit to the fact that this is the absolute end of the franchise. I think that’s a pretty revealing answer.”
