‘Dexter: New Blood’ Episode 10 Features Surprise Appearance, Per a Report

Premiering on Nov. 7, 'Dexter: New Blood' brought back Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan along with other several characters from the original series. But there's more to come. One report says a character will turn up in the final episode, becoming 'a big story point.'

Dexter, the beloved Showtime series from 2006 following a crime scene investigator by day and serial killer by night, finally got a revival in 2020. Dexter: New Blood serves as a continuation of his story, picking up in the years after he evaded capture by faking his death and going into hiding. But while it has a completely new look, it has also re-introduced some of the characters in his orbit in the original series.

The first episode of Dexter: New Blood saw the return of several characters — but there’s more to come. One report says a character will arrive at the very end of the show, when Dexter’s world is presumably imploding.

‘Dexter: New Blood’ so far

Since fleeing Miami, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) has started over as Jim Lindsay. He lives in the fictional remote town of Iron Lake, New York, where he works as a firearms dealer and dates the local police chief. He hasn’t killed since plugging the plug on his sister, Debra, who is back as his conscience. But he loses to his dark passenger after the discovery that local bad boy Matt Caldwell killed five and escaped punishment.

Matt is the son of wealthy and powerful businessman Kurt Caldwell, who will be played by Clancy Brown. The character description for Kurt says he’s well-known and loved among Iron Lake residents. “If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed,” the statement continues. “But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for… God help you.”

It couldn’t be a worse time for Dexter as his son, Harrison, has just shown up in Iron Lake. Fearing what could happen if Harrison knows the truth about him, Dexter’s initial reaction is to send the boy away. But he later decides against that and convinces Harrison to come home with him, pledging to be there for him in the same way that Harry Morgan was for him.

An original character will reportedly arrive at the end of ‘Dexter: New Blood’

Dexter: New Blood began in November and will run for 10 episodes. The show is building to a finale that showrunner Clyde Phillips promises will be “shocking” and will “blow up the Internet.”

Phillips also told TV Insider that the finale would see the return of “someone else from Dexter’s past.” While he didn’t offer up any clues, he told the website their arrival “becomes a big story point.”

It’s anyone’s guess who that person is, but one person it’s not is Desmond Harrington’s Joey Quinn. Phillips ruled out his involvement in the show in a past interview with Screen Rant, telling the outlet that Quinn would not come up “at all” in Dexter: New Blood. That leaves characters such as Angela Batista and Vince Masuka, among others. But viewers will have to keep watching to see.

Dexter: New Blood comes on at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays on Showtime. It’s unclear if there are any plans to do another season after this. But when asked about the possibility of a Dexter: New Blood Season 10, Phillips didn’t outright say no.

“I’m not giving away anything,” he told Us Weekly. He added to The Hollywood Reporter, “Never say never. Anything can happen. I’m not going to commit to the fact that this is the absolute end to the franchise.”
