The Trinity Killer returns in ‘Dexter: New Blood’
Lithgow appeared as the Trinity Killer in the Dexter: New Blood episode “Skin of Her Teeth.” Since Harrison arrived in Iron Lake, Dexter has been trying to figure out how much he remembers about his mother’s death. At the end of the episode, Harrison finally tells the truth.
He admits that he always had bad dreams about the night of Rita’s murder. When Harrison listened to Molly’s podcast episode about the Trinity Killer, everything came flooding back. “I remember everything,” Harrison tells Dexter. The flashback shows a naked Trinity stepping out of a blood-filled bathtub and bending down to pat Harrison’s head. “There, there. Daddy will be home soon,” he tells Harrison.
Fans are in a heated debate over Harrison remembering Rita’s murder
Harrison was very young when Rita was murdered. Many fans are in a heated debate over the plausibility of him remembering this traumatic event. “I really enjoyed this episode up until the point Harrison said he remembered everything about Rita being killed,” a Dexter: New Blood fan wrote on Reddit.
“That just isn’t possible, children don’t form explicit memories until around the age of 2 and half. Harrison was what 8 or 10 months old? Yet they want us to believe he remembers all of it, even what Trinity said to him. It kind of ruined the series for me.”
Still, other Dexter: New Blood fans have contested this idea. “This is often touted as empirical fact, but that’s not the case. There are plenty of people who have memories of infancy, it’s just not the statistical norm,” a fan responded. “I don’t think it’s possible for the memories to be quite so vivid, but it is apparently possible to have foggy memories,” another Reddit user added.
How many episodes of ‘Dexter: New Blood’ will the Trinity Killer appear in?
So far, Lithgow has appeared in only one episode of Dexter: New Blood. In an interview with Deadline, Lithgow previously stated that he would appear in the revival in a “flashback.” This has already been done, but it’s possible there are more flashbacks to come.
On IMDb, Lithgow is also credited in an upcoming episode titled, “The Family Business.” However, these credits can sometimes be unreliable. Fans will have to wait with bated breath to see if Trinity makes another appearance.
Dexter: New Blood airs on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays.
