According to showrunner Clyde Phillips, the Dexter: New Blood finale is going to be “surprising, inevitable, and it’s going to blow up the Internet” (via TVLine). Here’s what fans think might happen to Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) in the finale of Dexter: New Blood.

‘Dexter: New Blood’ finale airs early on the Showtime app 

Dexter fans who subscribe to the Showtime app can watch the finale of New Blood beginning at 12:01 AM ET on Sunday, Jan. 9. “Sins of the Father” will air on Showtime at 9 PM ET on Jan. 9, 2022.

Some fans want Dexter Morgan to live ‘happily ever after’ 

“I just want Dexter to live happily ever after killing people with his son,” said a fan in the Dexter Reddit thread. “I know it’s all about to come crashing down but the fact that Harrison (Jack Alcott) and Dexter can finally communicate honestly is so f****** awesome.” This is certainly a theory that could break the internet.

Dexter might end up in Miami in the ‘New Blood’ finale 

At the end of the original Dexter series, Dexter left Miami and his son Harrison behind to start his life as a logger in Oregon. In Dexter: New Blood, Dexter’s living a new life in upstate New York, but he reunites with Harrison and ends up sharing the secret of his “dark passenger.” Some fans want Dexter to take Harrison back to Miami where it all began in the season 9 finale. 

“I can’t explain it, but I honestly do think that Dexter (and Harrison) will end up back in Miami, possibly with Dexter getting his old job back,” writes another fan on Reddit. 

Dexter will get away with being a murderer in ‘Dexter: New Blood’ finale 

Thanks to Harry’s code, Dexter got away with murdering bad people for eight seasons. Some fans think that trend will continue for Dexter in the final episode of season 9. 

“I reckon Angela [Julia Jones] will see Molly [Jamie Chung] (and all the other girls) in the glass cases and will realize the world needs a Dexter,” writes yet another fan in the Reddit thread. “She will allow him to escape with Harrison, but on the condition that they never return to Iron Lake again. We’ll get some monologue about how Dexter doesn’t want to hide anymore, he will claim how proud he is of his son.” This fan can also see Dexter returning to Miami Metro and “resuming where he left off.”

This fan also thinks there could be more episodes of Dexter: New Blood in the future. However, showrunners have said this is the final chapter. 

Fan theories about Dexter Morgan dying in the ‘Dexter: New Blood’ finale

Based on what Phillips said, several Dexter fans think “Dearly Demented Dexter” has to die in the end. “Saying it’s going to be inevitable just makes me think he’s going to be caught and arrested or killed,” said one fan. “Surprising and blowing up the internet just could be how he gets caught/killed, and likely has to do with Harrison.”

“I think the writers will kill Dex,” added another fan in the comments. “People keep obsessing about Dexter needing a comeuppance ending for some justice.”
