Dexter: New Blood picks back up 10 years after the events of the Dexter finale. Dexter Morgan is now living in Iron Lake, New York under the alias Jim Lindsay. Iron Lake seems like a cozy and safe town, but it’s clear that some of its inhabitants have their own secrets. The name Iris has circulated around Dexter’s new girlfriend Angela Bishop, so who is this mysterious person? Fans have a chilling theory that could be the answer.

Iron Lake has a dark past in ‘Dexter: New Blood’

In Dexter: New Blood, Dexter’s new girlfriend is Chief of Police Angela Bishop. Angela is extremely hardworking and both the first woman and Native American to hold this role in Iron Lake. Angela also has an adoptive daughter named Audrey, but another name keeps circulating around Angela.

In one scene, when Angela is lecturing her daughter about the dangers of the world, Audrey shouts, “How many times do I have to tell you: I’m not Iris!” In another scene, Angela is investigating the disappearance of Matt Caldwell. A Native American Iron Lake resident remarks angrily about how the whole town is looking for Matt, but when “one of our girls” goes missing, no one seems to care. “After Iris, you of all people should know,” they tell Angela.

In episode 3, another woman mentions Iris to Angela. “When you girls were younger, Iris always thought the two of you would move to the city, start a band,” she says. “Well maybe she’s out there now, singing her heart out,” Angela replies. It’s clear from the context of these scenes that something bad happened to Iris, and fans have a chilling theory about what that could be.

Who is Iris in ‘Dexter: New Blood’?

In a Reddit thread, several fans have already guessed that Kurt Caldwell is the mysterious masked figure that has been terrorizing Iron Lake. This is not confirmed to be true, but a fan did bring up an interesting idea about Iris. “Is this “Iris” a victim of Caldwell?” they asked. “I really hope that’s the case. That would mean this guy has been active for like 15+ years,” another fan responded.

It would certainly be an interesting element if the new “big bad” in Dexter: New Blood was a serial killer who murdered someone close to Angela many years ago. “And who is she? Angela’s sister? Best friend? Audrey’s real mom?” another fan proposed. It sounds as if Angela and Iris grew up together, so it would make sense for her to be Angela’s sister or friend.

Another fan proposed a wilder theory. “What if Iris was Kurt’s daughter (he had a son who seemed a little younger than Angela, so it’s plausible that Iris could have been his daughter of a similar age to Angela) who went missing and that’s why his kills are always a teenage girl? Similar to how Trinity’s kills were to represent his family,” they wrote. Whoever Iris is, fans are dying to learn her story.

Will Dexter Morgan take down the masked gunman?

Fans have plenty of theories about the identity of the masked gunman in Dexter: New Blood. Some believe that the man is Kurt Caldwell, the father of the “missing” Matt Caldwell. In the first few episodes, fans saw the gunman kidnap a young woman, only to release and shoot her.

The masked gunman doesn’t seem to be on Dexter’s radar yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Based on his ritualistic methods, this new serial killer has likely been doing his thing for many years. Hopefully Dexter will get to take him down.
