‘Dexter: New Blood’ Star Julia Jones Says ‘Dexter’ Fan Base Drew Her to the Revival
Dexter: New Blood featured a cast of almost entirely new faces from the original series. Some of the cast, such as Jack Alcott, Clancy Brown, and Julia Jones, had never even seen Dexter prior to being cast. So what exactly convinced these actors to embark on TV series they didn’t know much about? For Chief Angela Bishop actor Julia Jones, the fan base was a hint that Dexter: New Blood was a good decision.
Julia Jones plays Angela Bishop in ‘Dexter: New Blood’
Jones played the part of Angela Bishop in Dexter: New Blood. Angela is the Chief of Police in Iron Lake, NY, as well as Dexter’s new girlfriend. Angela is the first Seneca woman to ever hold this position in her town. She is talented, intelligent, and hard-working.
When she was young Angela’s best friend Iris went missing. This led her to grow up determined to investigate cases of missing women who had passed through Iron Lake. Angela’s drive led her to discover shocking secrets about both Kurt Caldwell and Dexter Morgan.
Jones had amassed quite a few acting credits before joining the cast of Dexter: New Blood. Movie-goers might recognize her for her role as Leah Clearwater in several of the Twilight films. Jones has also appeared in TV shows such as Longmire, West World, The Mandolorian, and Goliath, according to IMDb.
The ‘Dexter’ fandom gave Julia Jones a good feeling about joining the revival
Although Jones had never seen Dexter before, she had a good feeling about the revival. In an interview with WWD, Jones explained that she had a positive “visceral reaction” when her agent sent her a New York Times article about Dexter: New Blood. Jones did more research, and Dexter‘s devoted fanbase served to convince her further that she was moving in the right direction.
“I had one friend in particular who is a urologist, and she had said that watching Dexter got her through residency,” Jones told WWD. “I’d never really heard her talk passionately about any television show before. And I sort of took that as not a conscious sign, but that definitely impacted my feelings about it going forward.”
The original Dexter series ran for eight seasons, from 2006-2013. Despite many viewers’ disappointment in the season 8 finale, Dexter still had a massive fan base by the time of the revival. Many people were excited to see Dexter Morgan again.
“It did draw me to it more,” she admits. “Because I think that in this equation of things that I look for in projects, one of them is an audience. And it isn’t often that you come across something or you have the opportunity to be a part of something that has a guaranteed audience.”
What’s next for Julia Jones?
Dexter: New Blood reached its shocking conclusion on Sunday, Jan. 9. It’s not clear yet whether there will ever be another season of the revival, or if it would involve Jones in any capacity. Regardless, the actor is now busy filming a second season of the comedy series Rutherford Falls.
“I can’t believe it’s a job. It doesn’t feel like work. I go to work with my friends every day, and we laugh all the time,” she told WWD. “And it’s a comedy, so I feel challenged in a new way that I appreciate. It’s very humbling. I haven’t done as many comedies as dramas and on those sets, I feel like a little kid looking up at everybody, like, ‘How do I be funny?’ You know? And I get really excited when I feel like I’ve done something funny.”
