Michael C. Hall is an actor who has become synonymous with his character Dexter Morgan. It’s not surprising, considering Hall portrayed the character for eight seasons of Dexter. He recently returned to the role in the revival series Dexter: New Blood. The series showcased more than just Hall’s acting talents. Hall is in fact in a band, and one of his songs was featured in an episode of Dexter: New Blood. The actor and his band will be embarking on a long-anticipated tour this spring, and fans might just get to hear that song from the show in person.

Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum will be touring this spring

Dexter star Michael C. Hall is the lead vocalist in a band called Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum. Hall performs alongside drummer Peter Yanowitz and keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen, both of whom boast impressive resumes of their own. According to the band’s website, Yanowitz has worked with artists such as Yoko Ono and Natalie Merchant. Katz-Bohen spent a decade touring and recording with Blondie.

Princess Goes to the Butterfly Museum is preparing to go on their first U.S. tour this spring. “We were supposed to do this in 2020 and it got knocked out from the pandemic so we feel like we’re just getting back and thrilled to be playing live and playing these songs,” Yanowitz told PopCulture. Yanowitz also revealed that tickets to some of the shows have already sold out. “Come ready to have a good time,” the drummer said.

Michael C. Hall didn’t write his song ‘Ketamine’ for ‘Dexter: New Blood’

Although Michael C. Hall is quite a famous actor, he didn’t push for any of his songs to be featured in Dexter: New Blood. “Honestly I left it up to the music supervisor and other people to decide when and if they thought a song of ours would fit into the season,” Hall told PopCulture. “I got an email saying that they wanted to play ‘Ketamine’ on the end credits of the fifth episode.”

Hall didn’t have Dexter in mind at all when he originally wrote the song. The lyrics are actually inspired by a “therapeutic ketamine treatment” that Hall did with his girlfriend (now wife) Morgan Macgregor, Hall told The Irish Times. “You’re injected [with Ketamine] and basically sent on a mind adventure for about an hour,” the actor said.

“It’s a song about my awareness during those sessions of being on a parallel but very different trip. And so I think maybe it was more about the experience of being in a relationship with someone that you love and craving a shared experience. But being aware that inevitably those experiences are going to be divergent as well.”

Although the song wasn’t originally written for Dexter, it’s taken on a new meaning for Dexter fans. It’s very possible that those who attend the band’s show might get to hear “Ketamine” performed live.

Ketamine played an important role in ‘Dexter: New Blood’

Hall’s song, titled “Ketamine,” took on a whole new meaning when it was chosen to play during the end credits of an episode of Dexter: New Blood. “It’s a tough-in-cheek reference to the fact that Dexter in this new season — it’s not what he used back in the day — but in this new season to knock out his victims he was using ketamine that he’d stolen from a veterinarian’s office,” he told PopCulture.

In fact, Dexter’s switch from M-99 in the original series to ketamine in New Blood has created what some fans see as a huge plot hole. Chief of Police Angela Bishop googled “ketamine Miami Metro” when she became suspicious of Dexter. This search pulled up results about the Bay Harbor Butcher (aka Dexter) who actually used M-99.
