Earlier this week, a quick-moving and aggressive wildfire broke out near Malibu, California. The fast-moving Franklin Fire threatened thousands of homes, and several celebrity estates were in the direct path of the fire. Residents were forced to evacuate. Dick Van Dyke was one of the many residents forced to flee. He shared his harrowing tale.
Van Dyke spoke with Today immediately after he evacuated his Malibu home amid wildfires. The entertainment icon said that he was attempting to evacuate but had exhausted himself so much that he found himself crawling toward his car. Neighbors, who were also in the midst of fleeing, helped him up and ensured he and his wife, Arlene Silver, made it to safety.
Van Dyke said the good samaritans also were kind enough to pause to put out a small fire that was blazing in his guest house. Van Dyke, who turned 99 on Dec. 13, shared footage from his Ring doorbell of the ordeal. In the video, his pets can be seen swirling around as they head for the car. Not everyone made it to the car, though. In a Facebook update, Van Dyke revealed that he and his pets had made it out safely, except for Bobo, a cat, who escaped amid the chaos. He said he was hopeful the resourceful feline would be ok. Van Dyke has returned with a positive update.

Dick Van Dyke’s admission about Bobo the cat had fans frantic over the feline. Thankfully, the famed actor didn’t take long to share an update. Van Dyke took to Facebook the following day to reveal that Bobo had been located safely and was reunited with his family.
Van Dyke revealed that animal control had been called in to search for Bobo because of media attention about his escape. He said they located the cat as soon as they returned home. He was completely unharmed. Van Dyke shared a photo of the orange cat looking a bit disgruntled with Arlene Silver as proof.
