Despite being one of the world’s most famous entertainers, Beyoncé has always been an extremely private person. She believes the focus should be on her work — not her personal life — and is therefore very selective with the things she chooses to share. However, her mother Tina Knowles is known to offer up information about the Lemonade crooner that might have otherwise fallen under the radar.
Most recently, Knowles shared a post on Instagram that fans believe shed light on what Beyoncé did for her 39th birthday. Ahead, find out everything we know about her big day and what Knowles posted around the same time.
Beyoncé recently turned 39
She celebrated her 39th birthday on Friday, Sept. 4. She did not publicly acknowledge the occasion, but sources told HELLO! Magazine that she planned on ringing it in with her family, including Jay-Z and their three children: Blue Ivy, 8, Sir, 3, and Rumi, 3.
In recent weeks, she and her family have been in The Hamptons at their $26 million home, according to HollywoodLife. An insider told the outlet in a report published on Aug. 29 that Beyoncé had been joined by Knowles, Solange, and Solange’s son Julez.
“They love it there and it’s been the perfect place to be during the pandemic for them because they have a ton of property and everything they need,” the insider said. “For the most part, it’s been a lot of quality family time.”
Tina Knowles posted something that fans think reveals exactly how Beyoncé celebrated her birthday
During Beyoncé’s birthday week, Knowles posted a photo dressed up in a black outfit with matching heels. Her hair was done in a Tina Turner-esque way with a bang and layers framing her face. Captioning the image, she wrote: “Last night I got to be one of my favorite entertainers[.] Can you guess who?”
She didn’t elaborate on why she was dressed up, but fans were convinced that it was for a celebration in honor of her daughter’s birthday.
“❤️❤️❤️ must’ve been for Beyoncé’s birthday party,” one fan wrote under The Shade Room‘s coverage of her post. Echoing that, a second person said, “So Bey had a themed b-day celebration!?👀🤔Auntie Tina stay sneaking stuff.”
Adding to the speculation is the fact that Beyoncé has been known to throw themed parties. Among them are an ’80s-themed skate party for her 21st birthday in 2002 and a Soul Train–themed costume party for her 35th birthday in 2016. But neither she nor Knowles has commented on or confirmed the birthday rumors.

Though Knowles has not acknowledged the speculation, it wouldn’t be the first that she got caught up for sharing family information. E! News even dedicated an entire article to her titled, “Secrets We Learned About Beyoncé Through Her Mom Tina Knowles’s Instagram Account,” that included a revelation that Beyoncé once referred to her mom as “TMZ.”
But at the same time, maybe this celebration was solely for her. Knowles also went on to post a photo with some friends, as well as a video of her husband Richard Lawson giving her a shoutout and serenading her with a song.
With no confirmation, it’s hard to name the exact reason for the celebration. But either way, it looks like it was a really good time. Happy Birthday, Bey!
