Devin Strader and Jenn Tran’s engagement and subsequent breakup might have shocked some The Bachelorette fans, but viewers following Strader on social media were much less surprised. The business owner hadn’t been particularly careful about hiding away ahead of the season finale. In fact, Strader was spotted out with another woman at one point. Did he break his contract by being less than careful, though?

All contestants and the lead sign a contract

Before anyone steps on screen for The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, they go through a pretty comprehensive screening process. Reportedly, they must complete background checks, STD screenings, and a psychological examination before being cast. Both the leads and the contestants are expected to sign a pretty lengthy contract ahead of their appearance, as well. According to Ranker, that contract has a lot of fine print.

One lengthy bullet point requires that leads and contestants maintain confidentially at all costs. According to insiders, the contract stipulates that contestants and leads can not discuss what happens during the season with anyone, including family. In theory, that could extend to how they act on social media and in public while the season is actively airing. While ABC has not sued a contestant or a lead for breaches before, the contract allegedly states that the network can hold contestants who breach the contract legally responsible.

Did Devin Strader break his contract?

While all contestants sign contracts, it’s unclear if Strader broke the rules of his agreement with the network. Still, executives associated with the show could construe his actions as potentially problematic.

Strader didn’t seem particularly interested in keeping himself hidden while the saga of his season played out on screen. The 28-year-old wasn’t being careful about his movements after the show. Strader followed past contestants on social media, leading to plenty of rumors about his intentions. He was even spotted spending time with an unnamed woman before the finale aired. One could suggest Strader broke a confidentiality agreement if he had signed one.

The fallout from Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette is not yet over. While it’s unclear if Strader broke any rules according to his contract, fans of the show believe he broke plenty of social rules. Fans have criticized Strader since the finale aired. The 28-year-old freight company owner has toggled his Instagram comments off several times since Tuesday’s finale and has also set his Instagram account to private intermittently since then.

Strader isn’t the only The Bachelorette contestant who has come under fire over the recent drama. Reddit users were quick to point out that both Sam McKinney and Thomas Nguyen seemed less concerned with Jenn Tran’s heartbreak and more concerned with hyping each other up. McKinney was labeled as the show’s villain early on. He had several issues with other contestants, including Strader. McKinney was booted from The Bachelorette in week six. Nguyen was sent home in week 4.
