Were Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe romantically involved?
It’s a question for the ages: Were Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe ever romantically involved? Just a simple Google search will tell you that it’s a question fans have wondered for decades. Byron Raphael, who was Presley’s agent at the time, claimed Presley and Monroe spent a night together in a hotel room.
Raphael spoke with The New York Daily Post and he revealed the details. The William Morris Agency, who represented Presley, wanted to get the two celebrities together for a publicity stunt in the form of them dating, according to Raphael [via Daily Mail]. However, Monroe reportedly wasn’t feeling it and declined in 1956.

However, Raphael said things didn’t end there. “But Presley didn’t give up and secretly set up a meeting,” Raphael continued.
He said that just a few weeks later, Presley and Monroe would meet at the Beverly Wilshire hotel when Raphael was instructed to get Monroe and bring her to Presley’s hotel room.
“Two weeks later, Elvis called me and said ‘I want you to pick up Marilyn,’” Raphael said. “It was a rainy night and I brought her to the Beverly Wilshire hotel and we went upstairs to his room.”
Raphael claimed the two icons didn’t say anything, and just began kissing and eventually went to the bedroom together. “Then Marilyn, who was 10 years older, said, ‘You’re pretty good for a guitar player.’ After two minutes they went into the bedroom and I didn’t know if I was supposed to leave, or stay and wait for them, so I sort of just dozed off,” Raphael said. Then, he said he woke up to see the two of them “stark naked” walking out of the room after he hid behind a nearby bar.
Raphael said Monroe left the hotel in a cab, and that appears to have been the end of it. However, he spoke about Monroe days later, to which he said Presley replied, “‘She’s a nice gal, but a little tall for me.'”
Presley’s former agent said he decided to keep quiet about the whole thing. They were both “two of the most famous people in the world.” Plus, Monroe, originally Norma Jeane Mortenson, was married to Arthur Miller at the time.
Despite the claim of a romantic encounter, nothing was ever made public until Presley’s former agent revealed the news decades later. It’s a situation some fans will always wonder about when it comes to two of the most famous icons to come out of the 20th century.
