Did Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Ever Really Belong Together?
News of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s separation is still fresh. The couple released a public statement on Aug. 10, but clearly, Cyrus has moved on quickly. The former Disney star was spotted getting cozy with Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn Carter. Hemsworth has been keeping a low profile since the announcement hit the mainstream media. Fans are reeling and are desperate to know what went wrong. Did their careers drive them apart, or did the pair just not share the same values?
Their ‘modern’ marriage might have been one-sided
Cyrus has long insisted that her marriage to Hemsworth was utterly unique and modern. She has been open about how things have been going, and up until recently, she alleged that all was fine in her home. The contemporary nature of their marriage, however, might have been one-sided.
Several media outlets have speculated that Cyrus’ desire to have an open marriage is what acted as the final blow to their ill-fated union. Cyrus has been open about her sexuality. She noted that while she was in a heterosexual relationship, she was still intensely attracted to women. She insisted that she decided to remain monogamous, but some believe that Cryus’ desire to openly see women while married to Hemsworth caused issues.
Miley Cyrus didn’t want to have kids right away
Hemsworth and Cyrus have never really seemed to align during their relationship. The on-again-off-again couple was seemingly an odd fit even during their early relationship. It looks like their young marriage was rife with conflict and disagreement because of polarizing priorities.
Radar Online has reported that the pair couldn’t agree on having children, or, the very least, they couldn’t agree on a timeline for kids. According to Radar’s source, Hemsworth was interested in starting a family immediately, while Cyrus didn’t have a set timeframe for adding offspring into the mix.
While Hemsworth once joked that he’d happily have 10, 15 or 20 kids with Cyrus, his wife of 8 months didn’t seem to share the sentiment. According to Entertainment Tonight, Cyrus sat down with Elle to discuss kids and her future plans. She, frankly, seemed to be on a completely different page than Hemsworth when it came to children. She is quoted as saying “And when that [kids] isn’t a part of our plan or our purpose, there is so much judgment and anger that they try to make and change laws to force it upon you — even if you become pregnant in a violent situation. If you don’t want children, people feel sorry for you, like you’re a cold, heartless b**ch who’s not capable of love.”
This isn’t the first split for the pair
While their eight-month marriage was short-lived, the pair have been a couple for years. Their relationship, however, has always been somewhat rocky. Cyrus and Hemsworth made their first appearance as a couple in 2010 when they showed up on the red carpet looking very much together. By 2012 they were engaged.
Trouble brewed in 2013 when the couple first postponed their marriage, then officially called it off. During the separation, Cyrus dated Patrick Schwarzenegger, according to Glamour. By 2016 they were back on, and Cyrus slipped her engagement ring back on her finger.
They married quietly in December 2018. Now, just eight months later, they have officially split, and it looks like their relationship is done for good. Cyrus is soaking up the sun and enjoying single life in Italy, while Hemsworth is allegedly mending his broken heart in Australia.
