In recent days, Blake Lively’s press tour behavior for It Ends With Us has been deemed bizarre at best and offensive at worst. Lively’s odd marketing choices aren’t the only issue fans have with the controversial flick’s promotion, though. Ryan Reynolds’ involvement has garnered more than a few side-eyes, too. Lively’s compulsion to gush about her marriage is even making fans suspicious of the union’s health. While Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ marriage seems just fine, fans can’t help but remember how quickly it started after the end of his first marriage. So, did Ryan Reynolds cheat on his first wife, Scarlett Johansson, with Blake Lively?

There is no concrete evidence that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds started their romance while he was still married to Scarlett Johansson. The timing of the relationship still gives fans pause more than 10 years after the fact, though. Reynolds was still very much married when he met Lively.

Reynolds met Lively on the set of The Green Lantern. The movie was released in 2011, but filming for the flick began in March 2010. The cast wrapped filming in August 2010. Reynolds and his first wife did not announce their split until December 2010. Their divorce was finalized the following year. While Reynolds once suggested he wasn’t interested in marrying a second time, he did exactly that a year after finalizing his divorce from Johansson.

Technically, Reynolds and Lively didn’t announce their relationship until 2011. That doesn’t mean they weren’t together before that, though. Fans largely assume they were dating but keeping things quiet while Reynolds navigated the end of his marriage. There is no evidence of cheating, but Reynolds does have a history of moving on quickly. He wasn’t all that far out of his relationship with Alanis Morrisette when he started seeing Johansson, either. Morrisette and Reynolds were engaged. They broke things off in 2007.

Everyone has clearly moved on

While fans still question whether there was an overlap between Johansson and Lively’s romances with Ryan Reynolds, everything seems to have worked out for the best. While Lively’s interview behavior has been questioned recently, her relationship with Reynolds seems to be intact. The duo looks perfectly happy together, at least as far as the public is concerned.

Johansson has rebounded well, too. After Reynolds, she married two more times. Johansson is currently married to Colin Jost. While she largely avoids discussing her past romances, she did mention her short-lived marriage to Ryan Reynolds in 2023 on The Goop Podcast.  Gwyneth Paltrow quipped that she had forgotten Johansson was married to Reynolds. Johansson laughed it off, insisting they weren’t married for very long before she insisted that Reynolds was a “good guy.”
