Better Call Saul is a thrilling look at Saul Goodman’s life before Breaking Bad. The series has introduced fans to Jimmy McGill — a former con-man turned criminal lawyer who is in love with the just and true Kim Wexler

Better Call Saul has shown us the ups and downs of Jimmy and Kim’s relationship, including Kim’s bombshell marriage proposal in the latest episode of Better Call Saul. Now, fans are wondering if she and Jimmy tie the knot.

There is a scene in season three of Breaking Bad that may have confirmed Jimmy and Kim’s marriage.

Kim Wexler proposed to Jimmy McGill

In the Better Call Saul episode titled “Wexler v. Goodman,” Kim drops a bomb on Jimmy. After a difficult meeting with her client, Mesa Verde, Kim feels conned. Defending his decision, Jimmy explained how Kim’s “Real anger worked like protective immunity.” He continued with “There’s no way Rich or Paige believe we’re in cahoots because we weren’t,” but that’s not the way Kim sees it.

Tired and feeling like Jimmy made a fool of her, Kim conceded, “You win, Jimmy.” Then, she went into a powerful monologue that fans were sure was going to result in a breakup.

Much to Jimmy’s surprise, Kim concluded with: “I cannot keep living like this. If you don’t see it, I don’t know what to say because we are at a breaking point. Either we end this now, and enjoy the time we had and go our separate ways, or maybe…or maybe we get married.”

By marrying Jimmy, Kim is attempting to protect him from having to testify against her in a court of law — and vice versa — should their Mesa Verde scam be discovered.

Saul Goodman talked about being married in ‘Breaking Bad’

In the Breaking Bad episode titled “Green Light,” Saul comforted a seething Walter White, who just found out Skyler was sleeping with her boss. In an attempt to make him feel better, Saul told Walt about the woes of his past by sharing, ” I caught my second wife screwing my step-dad.”

Until Better Call Saul came to be, fans didn’t think anything of the comment. Armed with the knowledge of Kim’s marriage proposal and the fact that Jimmy and Kim’s relationship will inevitably dissolve, fans are curious about Saul’s marriage track record.

Was he married more than once? Was Kim his first wife? Have we met his second wife in Better Call Saul or Breaking Bad? Was Saul lying when he said that?

Given Saul’s record of embellishing stories, many fans don’t think Saul’s comment about a second wife is necessarily the truth.

Vince Gilligan addressed Saul’s failed marriages

In an interview with Screen Rant from Jan. 2018, co-creator Vince Gilligan revealed that the line about Saul’s failed marriages was a “goofy throwaway” and explained the continuity issues it has caused since.

I’ll tell you a tricky one. Off the top of my head, there was some casual reference Saul Goodman made way back in Breaking Bad about being married twice or three times or something like that. That one has bedeviled us for sure. It was just a goofy throwaway line in an episode of Breaking Bad where Saul Goodman talked about his second wife or some such and that has bedeviled us. We’re trying to figure that one out. When did he a wife? And who was the second wife? Who was his first wife? Blah blah blah. That was a tricky one.

Did Gilligan know a proposal from Kim was going to be written into the fifth season of Better Call Saul? Is he protecting fans from discovering the fate of Jimmy and Kim’s relationship before the sixth and final season?

Only time will tell whether Saul was truly married multiple times in the past and whether or not one of those marriages was to Kim Wexler.
