Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has had one of the most successful hip hop careers in history. He has been one of the most recognizable rappers for over three decades.

During his career, he has had several number-one songs, numerous platinum albums, and has even won three Grammy Awards. Even though Diddy has had an impressive career, on New Year’s Eve, he proved that he is really no different than anyone else.

On the last day of 2019, many fans were shocked to see a video on Diddy’s Instagram page where he talked about how last year was one of the most difficult years of his life and he had actually thought about giving up. Here is a closer look at what Diddy has had to go through in 2019 and how he is trying to move past this difficult time.

The beginning of 2019 started out bad for Diddy. In late 2018, his ex-girlfriend, Kim Porter was found dead in her home. According to the coroner’s report,

Porter had died in her sleep due to complications of pneumonia. Diddy and Porter had been separated for several years but they were still close and worked hard to co-parent their children. Porter left behind four children: her oldest son, Quincy Brown, from a previous relationship; and a 20-year old son and two 12-year-old twins that she shares with Diddy.

In addition to losing the mother of his children, Diddy also broke up with his girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. The couple had been together for almost 10 years.

Diddy spent almost the entire year trying to win his ex-girlfriend back. In December the iconic music mogul had posted an old photo of his ex on his Instagram story in hopes of winning Ventura back.

However, not long after the picture was posted, Ventura had announced that she had completely moved on from her relationship with Diddy and now has a new boyfriend and they are expecting their first child together.

On New Year’s Eve, Diddy took to Instagram to give his fans an update on how he is doing while also letting others who are going through a rough patch in their lives know that they are not alone.

“2019 was a crazy year,” Diddy had said. “It was a great year for some of us. And for some of us, that sh**t was really, really, really hard, man. It was a hard year. I want to tell everyone that went through the shift and had a hard year, dealt or are dealing with heartbreak or loss or just not knowing where they’re going. Depression, you know, the energy was real, real heavy out there. I even got affected by it, you know. 2019 was honestly the year that I felt like I wanted to give up.”

He then went on to talk about how he dealt with depression for almost the entire year of 2019. Not everything that he said was sad, however. About halfway through his two-minute video, Diddy’s speech turned from sad to motivational.

“I’m telling you this because I had so many people to help me. To help lift me up. Before we go into 2020, we need each other. We got to lift each other up. Lift it up,” Diddy had said.

Diddy’s speech gave hope to many people

As Diddy had said, not everyone had a good year in 2019. And although many people experienced depression last year, dealing with depression is definitely not a new concept.

According to Very Well Mind, around 300 million people in the world dealed with depression in 2017.

When Diddy decided to bravely tell his story, he let his millions of fans know that they are not alone. He also insisted that no matter what you are going through, as long as you have faith and a support system, things will eventually get better.
