It’s a little bit ironic that the superstar host of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives isn’t even a fan of breakfast. Most people love going to diners so they can eat breakfast at any hour. However, Guy Fieri doesn’t order that meal anytime because he just doesn’t care for it.

The 53-year-old restauranteur will try breakfast themed dishes on the show if that’s what the diner is known for. Just don’t expect Fieri to eat eggs, ever. There’s only one dish he’ll eat for breakfast and it’s got Southern charm written all over it.

Food Network fans adore DDD because it serves up something different every time. Fieri travels the country sampling some of the best independently run restaurants in the United States. While there, he’s been known to nosh on strange food combinations and rarely shies away from one-of-a-kind ingredients.

For example, the Emmy award winning host chowed down on grasshopper tacos, cannoli with jalapenos, and a pig’s head platter, just to name a few. Fieri swears he’d never disparage a chef on air even if he didn’t care for the recipe.

The Food Network host isn’t a fan of breakfast

Fieri eats all kinds of different creations on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. But he recently told Insider he doesn’t care for breakfast much.

“I do not eat a lot of breakfast,” he told the publication. “I probably eat breakfast, maybe twice a month. I’m not a breakfast guy at all.”

If he does sit down to a morning meal, it’s usually a Southern favorite. “If I do eat breakfast, it’s grits,” Fieri continued. “My mom is from North Carolina, so we grew up eating grits and ham and red-eye gravy. And that’s like this staple.”

He also mentioned homemade granola and fresh-squeezed juice as viable breakfast options, when he decides to eat that meal at all. Fieri is willing to cook breakfast for his family even when he doesn’t plan to eat any.

“If we’re gonna have a family breakfast, Sunday football, or we’re having a brunch and we’re having friends around, my wife knows we gotta make sure we have some good stone-ground grits in the house,” he said.

While he’s open to certain breakfast options, you’ll never catch Fieri with a classic plate of scrambled eggs like you’d find at the diners he frequents. That’s because the Food Network host has a notorious aversion to this popular breakfast food.

It all goes back to childhood. The story goes that Fieri discovered a baby bird inside an egg when he was just 10. This icky incident didn’t help the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives star love egg sandwiches, but apparently that’s not what turned him off to eggs forever.

“…You know what it was? It’s that I had a bad hard-boiled egg. It was the chalky yolk,” Fieri explained.

Despite his anti-egg stance, the best-selling cookbook author is willing to eat breakfast foods occasionally, though not always in the morning. And he’ll always sample French toast or other classic creations at the diners he visits on the show.

As long as the chefs featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives avoid eggs, all is fine with Fieri.
