Disney is Reportedly Casting Ariel’s Sisters For the Live-Action Adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid’
Life is the bubbles when you’re a Disney fan. With the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid right around the corner, this company is taking the next steps towards the journey under the sea with Ariel. Here’s what we know about Disney and the cast of their upcoming reboot, The Little Mermaid.
Some report that Disney is casting Ariel’s sisters for the live-action version of ‘The Little Mermaid’
If you’ve seen the animated version of The Little Mermaid, chances are, you’ve seen a glimpse of Ariel’s mermaid sisters. Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, and Andrina put on a production for their father during the beginning of the movie, but, of course, the youngest sister, Ariel, is the star.
According to The DisInsider, Disney started casting these sisters, although nothing has been confirmed by the studio. Because the casting is still ongoing, no one has been confirmed for these supporting roles. Still, some fans hope that Chloe Bailey (Halle Bailey’s sister,) Keke Palmer, and even Zendaya would be considered.
“Disney, cast Chloe as one of Ariel’s sister or create a new character for her, like you did in Aladdin, have her be a human best friend for Ariel when she comes on land. I want these two to have a duo in the movie, theatres will quake, wigs will be snatched,” one Twitter user said.
“Imagine if Zendaya was cast as Vanessa (Ursula’s human persona) in The Little Mermaid, that would be kind of awesome,” another Twitter user said.
Who is playing Ariel in the live-action adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid’
Everyone’s favorite red-headed mermaid is making a splash in theaters, portrayed by Halle Bailey of the sister duo, Chloe x Halle. The casting choice wasn’t exactly met with acceptance from some Disney fans. After news broke of Disney’s casting choice, the actress responded to the criticism during an interview with Variety.
“I just feel like this role was something bigger than me, and greater,” Bailey said. “I feel like I’m dreaming and I’m just grateful and I don’t pay attention to the negativity. It’s going to be beautiful and I’m just so excited to be a part of it.”
Other actors confirmed for this live-action adaptation include Melissa McCarthy, who will portray the villain of the film, Ursula. Comedian Awkwafina will portray Scuttle and Wonder’s Jacob Tremblay will portray Flounder. Recently, Disney confirmed Jonah Hauer-King, will portray Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric.
When does ‘The Little Mermaid’ premiere?
With the premiere of ABC’s The Little Mermaid Live, some fans are wondering when this live-action reboot of Disney’s animated classic will premiere. According to the DisInsider, “The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall, and production is expected to begin in April in the Caribbean.”
There is no official premiere date for The Little Mermaid. The next live-action production by Disney to premiere is their rebooted version of Mulan, which premieres during March 2020. However, the company also confirmed photo-real and live-action reboots of movies like Bambi and Pinocchio.
Until then, fans can watch the animated classic, The Little Mermaid, on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.
