This bounty hunter has a new mission and we’re totally here for it. Although fans are still a few months away from new episodes of this Star Wars live-action series, one source reports that Jon Favreau has already begun production on season 3 of The Mandalorian.

Here’s what we learned about future seasons of The Mandalorian, including the 2020 release, The Mandalorian season 2.

According to Variety, the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’ is in the works

As one of the most popular shows on Disney’s streaming platform, The Mandalorian tells the story of one bounty hunter finding his way after the fall of the Empire. He stumbles upon a character nicknamed “Baby Yoda” by fans on the internet. As a result, his mission quickly pivots.

With the entire first season released and available for streaming, and a second already on the way, Variety confirmed that Disney and Jon Favreau are already working on season 3 of this Star Wars live-action series. It is currently in the pre-production stage.

“We’ve just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for the Mandalorian in Season 3,” one source said, according to Variety. Once the news broke, some fans took to social media, making The Mandalorian a top trending topic on Twitter.

Jon Favreau is behind season 2 and 3 of the Disney+ series, ‘The Mandalorian’

The mastermind behind this Star Wars series is Jon Favreau, formerly of Disney’s photo real adaptation of The Lion King and The Jungle Book. Favreau confirmed he was working on season 2 just weeks after the first episode of The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+. Now, according to Variety, the writer is already working on future seasons.

Variety writes, “sources close to the production have confirmed that creator Jon Favreau has been ‘writing season 3 for a while,’ and that the art department, led by Lucasfilm vice president and executive creative director Doug Chiang, has been creating concepts for season 3 ‘for the past few weeks.’”

Jon Favreau or the Walt Disney Company have not yet confirmed whether the Mandalorian and, more importantly, the Child would return for the show’s third season. Presumably, more information will be announced in the coming months.

There’s no official release date for ‘The Mandalorian’ season 3

The details surrounding the third season of this series are still pretty foggy. Fans do know, however, that production for season 2 of The Mandalorian wrapped earlier this year, meaning fans are just months away from the next chapter of this bounty hunter’s story.

Although there is no official premiere date for the new episodes, some speculate it could debut on Disney+ during Fall 2020, around a year after the streaming platform’s launch date.

In the meantime, fans can watch already released episodes of this live-action Star Wars series on Disney’s subscription service.
