Disney World opened its gates for the first time on Oct. 1, 1971. Now, the park is getting ready to celebrate its milestone 50th anniversary. While there will be plenty of in-park celebrations happening, those who can’t make it to Florida won’t be left out of the fun. On Oct. 1, The Most Magical Story on Earth: 50 Years of Walt Disney World airs on ABC. The two-hour special offers an inside look at the history of Disney World. It also features performances by Christina Aguilera and Halle Bailey, star of the upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid

‘The Most Magical Story on Earth’ airs Oct. 1 on ABC

Whoopi Goldberg will host The Most Magical Story on Earth, which airs Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. 

The special looks at the 50-year history of Disney World, from its beginning in the Florida swamplands to its evolution into one of the most popular vacation destinations on Earth. Never-before-seen footage will show how Walt Disney’s vision for the park came to life, as well as the plans for the park’s future. The Most Magical Story on Earth will also celebrate memorable Disney World moments in pop culture and show how Disney and the Make-A-Wish foundation have teamed up to make Disney dreams come true for kids in need. 

John Stamos, Melissa Joan Hart, and Tom Brady will all appear in the Disney World 50th anniversary special

Chris Evans Reveals His Favorite Magic Kingdom Ride in Disney World

The Most Magical Story on Earth will feature both Aguilera and Bailey performing in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom, accompanied by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. 

“It means so much for me to be part of this 50th celebration,” Bailey said in a teaser video for the special. She added that she’d be performing the song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” from The Lion King.  

The Most Magical Story on Earth will also feature interviews with iconic actors, athletes, and Walt Disney World cast members. Disney Imagineers and executives will also share their thoughts on the park. 

Anthony Anderson, John Stamos, Marsai Martin, Melissa Joan Hart, Candace Cameron Bure, Gary Sinise, Tom Brady, Kevin Feige, and James Cameron are among those who will be sharing their Disney memories in the special. 

“Very honored to be a part of this along with @johnstamos and represent the memories we made while shooting Full House at Walt Disney World those many years ago,” Cameron Bure wrote on her Instagram

How to stream ‘The Most Magical Story on Earth’

If you don’t catch The Most Magical Story on Earth when it airs on ABC, don’t worry. The special will be streaming on Hulu beginning Oct. 2. It will be on Disney+ later in October.
