TikTok star, Dixie D’Amelio is once again trying her hand at music with a new song, “One Whole Day”. Unfortunately, for the 19-year-old, reactions to the song thus far have been less than stellar. The drama began when D’Amelio posted a teaser to her new song and music video which features rapper Wiz Khalifa. When TikTok users got wind of the lyrics used along with her singing voice, many of them didn’t hold back their criticism.

One lyric, in particular, that caught lots of heat was “One day, one day / I was really really really really sad.” Many of D’Amelio’s fans felt that the lyric was particularly juvenile and felt that they’d written something similar in the third grade. Others shared that D’Amelio’s voice sounded bad and that her new song sounded like something you could hear on a Kidz Bop CD.

Dixie D’Amelio responds to backlash for her new song on Twitter

While D’Amelio did have some fans who jumped to her defense and were excited about her new song, the criticism clearly got to the TikToker. She quickly deleted the teaser for her song off of TikTok and then took to her Twitter page to express her frustrations. “I literally can’t be excited about ANYTHING LOL,” D’Amelio wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “I’m just tryna have fun, I love music and photoshoots. But I’m losing a passion for everything.”

Of course, Dixie wasn’t the only D’Amelio to respond to the backlash from her new song. The 19-year-old’s mother, Heidi D’Amelio, also weighed in a very lengthy Instagram story message which has since expired.

The TikTok star’s mom weighs in on Instagram

“There [sic] a millions of people with millions of chances to do things they love,” Heidi D’Amelio wrote. “There is always a lot of work put in to [sic] every person who shows growth and is striving — it doesn’t happen overnight like you may think. To those shi**ing on people who are doing things they love and are getting attention for it — you should find something you love and go do it! To anyone who takes the time to type hate towards someone who is having fun and doing what they love, please know you are a classic case of a weak person who is truly pathetic. If you are a person who wants to take something you love and are passionate about to the next level put in your work and figure it out. Ask for help, do your research, Google it!! But what you don’t do is be an asshole to someone else that has done the work you aren’t willing to do.”

Despite Heidi’s Instagram rant, the video is still receiving backlash. In fact, many people are stating that D’Amelio’s new song is this generation’s version of Rebecca Black’s “Friday.” “Friday”, of course, was released by Black back in 2011 when she was only 13. Though the song did go viral, it was not for good reasons. Black was mocked for years because of the song and “Friday” continues to be named one of the worst songs of all time. Now, D’Amelio’s critics are thinking her new song may have a similar impact.

Is D’Amelio’s song, ‘One Whole Day’ as bad as Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’?

“It gives me Rebecca Black ‘Friday’ vibes,” one person wrote on Oh No They Didn’t after hearing a clip from D’Amelio’s new song. “Also, she can’t sing and the autotune plugin is struggling to pitch correct her trash vocals.” “This is going to be this generation’s ‘Friday’…. bookmark me!” another person penned. “This is her ‘Friday’ era I guess lol,” another person shared. Only time will tell if D’Amelio’s new song will have the viral impact of Black’s. But we’re sure her fans are interested in hearing the rest of the tune either way.
