Rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, had many fans from all over the world. When he died in April 2021, the “X Gone Give It to Ya” artist’s supporters paid tribute to him on social media. In addition to his ex, DMX’s fiancee, Desiree Lindstrom, recently spoke about his death for the first time via Instagram.

Throughout his career, DMX’s personal life sometimes overlapped with his professional one. The Ruff Ryders emcee became famous in the late 1990s after signing with Def Jam. While with the label, Dark Man X released five chart-topping albums and was the first rapper to do so. As his music career began to expand, DMX also delved into acting with films such as Belly and Romeo Must Die with Aaliyah.
Before his music exploded, the “Party Up” artist and Simmons were in a relationship. The pair were together for several years and eventually got married in 1999. Cameras captured much of their romance as the couple discussed their marriage on several reality shows. However, they stayed together for 13 years until Simmons filed for divorce in 2012. The couple finalized their divorce in 2014.
Around the same time as his divorce, DMX started dating Lindstrom. The New York natives dated for several years and had an on-and-off relationship. In 2016, the couple welcomed DMX’s 15th child, Exodus. Three years later, the Cradle 2 the Grave star proposed to Lindstrom at their son’s birthday party.

DMX and Lindstrom were together until the day the rapper died. Just several days before his heart attack, his fiancee posted an Instagram video of them dancing to Michael Jackson in a car. When DMX was on life support at a New York hospital, Lindstrom was by his side, as well as the rest of the rapper’s family. After a week of being on life support, DMX died. Many celebrities, including Aaliyah’s mom, Diane Haughton, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Snoop Dogg, spoke about the rapper’s impact on the music industry.
On April 17, 2021, Lindstrom broke her silence and posted a photo of her and DMX on Instagram. In her caption, she explained that the picture was from the first night the couple met. Lindstrom also shared how grateful she is that the two of them crossed paths.
“The first night we met, and you held me close,” she wrote. I knew I would never let go. I was lost in you, and nothing else mattered. My best friend, my baby, my love…truly my everything. Thank you for us.”
