‘Doctor Strange 2’: Fans Are Comparing Ryan Reynolds to Andrew Garfield After He ‘Promises’ Deadpool Isn’t in the Marvel Film
Marvel is releasing two of its most secretive films back-to-back — Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Thanks to the multiverse, both movies have high stakes and multiple Easter eggs and cameos. After Marvel released a poster for the Doctor Strange sequel, fans noticed a figure that looks like Deadpool in the picture. However, Ryan Reynolds adamantly denies he reprises his role as Deadpool in the Doctor Strange sequel.
The ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ poster might feature Deadpool
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness poster contains many Easter eggs that caused a lot of excitement among fans. And some believe they see Deadpool on the poster.
When zooming in on one part of the picture, a figure that looks like Deadpool holds his finger up to his mouth as if he is shushing someone. It’s a blurry image, though, so it might not be the anti-hero. But we wouldn’t be surprised if it is.
Disney officially acquired 20th Century Fox, which contained the rights to Deadpool, in 2019. Since then, Kevin Feige and Ryan Reynolds have confirmed that Deadpool 3 will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if fans saw Deadpool in the MCU before his third film. And what better way to introduce Deadpool in the MCU than in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
Ryan Reynolds denies his involvement with the film
Unfortunately for fans, Ryan Reynolds told Variety that he is not playing Deadpool in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
“I’m really not in the movie,” Reynolds claimed. When the interviewer pushed him further, the actor stood his ground and said, “I’m promising. I’m not in the movie.”
And when asked about Deadpool 3, Reynolds shared, “It’s coming along.”
The actor is not giving anything away about Deadpool’s future. But this wouldn’t be the first time an actor has lied about their involvement in an MCU movie. So fans are hesitant to believe when Reynolds said Deadpool is not in the Doctor Strange sequel.
Fans liken Ryan Reynolds’ comments about Deadpool in the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel to Andrew Garfield’s lies
After Variety published their interview with Ryan Reynolds, fans shared their thoughts about the actor’s comments on social media. And for the most part, they think that Reynolds is pulling an Andrew Garfield.
As many recall, Andrew Garfield denied his involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home in the months leading up to its premiere. But he was lying. Garfield and Tobey Maguire reprised their roles as Peter Parker in the MCU film, and the world of cinema will never be the same. Now, many believe that Reynolds is following in the footsteps of Garfield.
One fan wrote, “Ryan Reynolds is the new Andrew Garfield.” Another person said, “Ryan Reynolds is pulling the Andrew Garfield trick! It’s obvious he will be in Doctor Strange 2.”
“Thanks to the No Way Home press tour and Andrew Garfield, I can’t believe a single word Ryan Reynolds says here,” a fan tweeted. “I also can’t think of a better movie to bring Deadpool to the MCU than Doctor Strange 2.”
Whatever the case may be, fans will not know for sure if Ryan Reynolds plays Deadpool in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness until it premieres exclusively in theaters on May 6.
