Fans of golf haven’t had to let go of as much as other sports fans have during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic shut-downs. The PGA Tour is in full swing, albeit without spectators cheering from the sidelines, and golf fans are happier than ever to have something to look forward to. One of this year’s rising stars is Bryson DeChambeau. The 26-year-old California native has been making waves since his professional debut in 2016. While fans know about his professional life, what’s going on in his personal life?
Who is Bryson DeChambeau?
DeChambeau has had a meteoric rise into the professional golf world. Before turning pro in 2016, DeChambeau attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX with an athletic scholarship. He won the U.S. Amateur title and the NCAA individual championship in 2015, becoming only the fifth person to ever do so (Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are among the others!).
Once DeChambeau went pro, he started out strong. He tied for fourth place in his professional debut at the 2016 RBC Heritage in South Carolina. He made his PGA Tour debut in 2017 and won the John Deere Classic as part of the tour. DeChambeau continued making wins and made his way up to a fifth-place official world ranking in 2018. Since then, he has continued climbing up among the ranks of today’s best players and, most recently, finished in the top five of the 2020 PGA Championship.
Bryson DeChambeau gained a ton of muscle mass while quarantined
DeChambeau garnered some media attention at the beginning of this summer when he debuted a much different look on the golf course. Like the rest of us, DeChambeau needed something to keep him busy while stuck at home in quarantine, and he chose to work out nonstop — probably unlike the rest of us.
DeChambeau gained 20 pounds over a three-month period while courses were closed due to the pandemic. That’s in addition to another 20 pounds he put on last fall, making him go from 195 lbs last year to around 235 lbs today. The goal, he has said, was to increase the distance he could hit the ball and to increase his swing speed. “My game after quarantine, the distance has really put it to a whole new level for me,” he told ESPN.
Is Bryson DeChambeau dating anyone?
DeChambeau was most recently linked to Instagram model Sophia Bertolami, reports Golf Monthly. The 27-year-old is a nursing student in Nashville and has over 57,000 followers on her Instagram account. Apart from posting selfies and advertisements for swimwear, Bertolami is best known for when she purchased what she believed was a mini pig and actually grew to be over 1,000 lbs. The pig’s name is Stella and she frequently posts pictures with her on social media.
The pair used to frequently post pictures on social media together and Bertolami was seen at various PGA events in 2018 alongside DeChambeau. Bertolami posted a photo of them together in a swanky helicopter before the 2018 US Open, as well as a photo of the two of them holding hands after DeChambeau scored his first playoff victory the same year.
But since then, neither has posted any photos of the two of them together, leading many to believe that they have since broken up after dating for an unknown amount of time. DeChambeau hasn’t posted any photos with what appears to be a love interest and he hasn’t been linked with anyone publicly, so it is probably safe to assume that the rising golf star focusing on his career for now.
