BTS’s fame has been propelled by a number of things, but their catchy songs definitely play a role. Since their debut in 2013, BTS has released several albums and countless singles, with some of them even charting high in the United States. This has led some people to wonder: Who are the brains behind these BTS songs? Do the BTS members write the songs themselves?
BTS is known for having meaningful songs
Many BTS fans are aware that not only are their songs extremely catchy, they also contain meaningful messages as well.
BTS was originally formed with the goal of being a hip-hop group that would make music for young people. As a result, BTS have many songs with lyrics about social issues that the youths of both South Korea and the world can relate to. For example, some tracks talk about the expectations placed on young people by adults around them. Other tracks touch on the subject of mental health and the struggle to find happiness.
BTS’s ability to touch the hearts and minds of fans everywhere has been cited as a factor for their immense success. Even Big Hit Entertainment’s CEO, Bang Si-hyuk, agrees.
“They don’t shy away from speaking about the pain felt by today’s generation. They respect diversity and justice, the rights of youths and marginalized people,” Bang told Time Magazine. “I think all of these factors worked in their favor.”
Does BTS write their own songs?
While some artists leave the songwriting to other people, BTS is actually very hands-on when it comes to this process.
Their rappers—RM, Suga, and J-Hope—write lyrics for a lot of their songs. These members are quite talented since they have solo careers with tracks written by them as well. The rest of the group also contributes to songwriting here and there.
Of course, BTS does not do everything themselves. They actually work with a diverse team of songwriters and producers as well to create the songs fans hear. These songwriters and producers also help the members tweak their creations and turn their work into things that can be released to the public. Additionally, it is not uncommon for BTS to buy songs from different sources and giving them a BTS twist.
Does BTS choreograph their own dance?
Like their music, BTS’s dance routines are mostly collaborations between professional choreographers as well as the BTS members themselves. J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook are the group’s most skilled dancers, so they are often the ones to help plan choreographies.
Even though BTS is extremely busy all year round, it’s clear the members are passionate about their work. Given how involved they are in songwriting and choreographing, many fans no doubt can feel the authenticity in their performances, leading BTS to become more admired and respected all around the world.
