Prince Harry and Kate Middleton have developed a very sweet sibling-like bond over the years. Whenever they are seen in public together, you are always sure to see Middleton laughing at one of Prince Harry’s jokes or Prince Harry standing next to the duchess in a protective brotherly stance. Being that Middleton and Prince Harry have become so close, it only makes sense that she would try to befriend Harry’s romantic interests as well.
The only two women that Harry has ever really gotten serious with was his ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy and his wife, Meghan Markle. Although there have been many rumors that Markle and Middleton don’t get along, many people didn’t believe that Middleton and Davy were ever able to spark up a friendship either.
So, out of the two women, which one does Middleton prefer to spend time with? Here is what we know about the relationship that Middleton has with both Davy and Markle.
Were Kate Middleton and Chelsy Davy friends?
Davy and Prince Harry had an on-again-off-again relationship from 2004 until 2011. The Zimbabwe-born beauty met Prince Harry while he was spending his gap year in Africa. Davy and Prince Harry got together only a year after Prince William and Middleton started dating. Many people believed that these two would have become instant friends as they would be able to bond over having to cope with suddenly being thrust into the spotlight at the same time.
There were a few moments when the girls would comfort each other in some high-profile royal events that they had happened to be attending at the same time. According to a royal expert, Katie Nicholl, however, the two were never able to become as close as everyone had originally thought they would. It had been reported that Middleton had tried to befriend Davy, but Davy had declined because the two had such different personalities. This didn’t mean that Middleton and Davy disliked each other necessarily, but they were more like acquaintances rather than were friends.
“[Kate’s] friendship with Chelsy was Lukewarm,” says Nicholl. “They were completely different characters and the bubbly Zimbabwean got along better with Pippa.”

When Markle and Prince Harry got engaged, Markle had quit her job, left her friends and family, and moved to a foreign country to be with the prince. Being that she had given up so much to be with the man of her dreams, it is unsurprising that Prince Harry had hoped that Middleton would become Markle’s new best friend so that she wouldn’t feel so alone.
However, it doesn’t look like they were ever to accomplish a close bond. There have been many rumors over the years that suggest that Markle and Middleton do not like each other, but so far, none of those rumors have been confirmed. Just like with Davy, Kate seems like she is friendly with Markle, but that doesn’t mean that they are actually friends.
However, according to royal experts, it is believed that now that Markle has given birth to Baby Archie, the two duchesses will start to become closer. Markle’s mother had stayed with Markle and Prince Harry for a while after the baby was born, but she has since gone back home to America, which leaves the first-time mother all alone with no family to turn to for advice about raising a baby. In fact, US Weekly had spoken to a royal insider who said: “Now that [Kate and Meghan] are bonding over motherhood, they’ve become closer than ever.”
