Does Kody Brown’s Name Appear on His Children’s Birth Certificates?
Christine Brown is currently suing Kody Brown for child support. Before a judge can require the former polygamist to pay up for Truely Brown, paternity needs to be established. Kody Brown has never denied the paternity of any of his children. Whether or not the Sister Wives star appears on their birth certificates as their legal father is up for debate, though. It’s possible he appears on some birth certificates and not others.
Kody Brown is absolutely listed as the father of at least some of his kids
Kody Brown most likely appears as the father on Leon Brown’s birth certificate. Meri and Kody were legally married when their only child was born, which automatically establishes paternity. He would be listed on the birth certificates for Ariella Brown for the same reason. Ariella Brown was born in 2016, two years after Kody divorced Meri to legally marry Robyn Brown. Ariella is Robyn Brown’s youngest child.
Kody Brown is likely listed as the father on amended birth certificates for Dayton Brown, Aurora Brown, and Breanna Brown. All three children were adopted by Kody after their biological father, David Preston Jessop, relinquished his paternal rights. Solomon Brown, who was born before Kody and Robyn were legally wed, may have an amended birth certificate listing Kody as his father, as well.
Is he legally the father of Janelle Brown and Christine Brown’s kids?
Kody is listed on the birth certificates of several of his children because he was legally married or is legally married to their mother. Things get a bit more confusing regarding Christine Brown and Janelle Brown’s children.
It is common practice in polygamist circles for fathers to be left off of birth certificates for children born to a spiritual wife. Fear of prosecution has led many polygamist families to hide paternity. No one in the Brown family has specifically revealed whether Kody is listed as the father of his children with Janelle Brown and Christine Brown. Still, on Sister Wives, Kody once suggested he would not consent to a then-minor Ysabel Brown having surgery. He seemed under the impression that he had a legal say, suggesting he was considered her legal father. It’s entirely possible that was all talk on Kody’s part, though.
If he is now listed on their birth certificates, it is unclear if Kody’s name was always included or if he was added later. Some people believe that since Christine has to establish paternity, he is not listed as Truely’s father on legal documents. That may be the case. Still, it’s possible that paternity would have to be established by the courts regardless because Christine and Kody were never legally married. Unless Christine, Janelle, or Kody share that information, Sister Wives fans will never know for sure.
