Does Liam Hemsworth’s Sister-in-Law Elsa Pataky Regret Matching Miley Cyrus Tattoo?
Hollywood is full of messy breakups that captivate fans and keep us glued to the tabloids for the next juicy tidbit of drama. What sometimes can get lost in the shuffle of this entertaining story is that real people’s lives are impacted by the fallout of a relationship ending.
It’s not just the members of the relationship themselves who face the effects, either. Their friends and family are all impacted by the changing dynamics.
In the case of Elsa Pataky, there is even a permanent reminder of a love that used to be. Pataky got matching tattoos with Miley Cyrus when the latter was still with the former’s brother-in-law, Liam Hemsworth.
Does she regret getting the symbol etched onto her? Let’s find out.
Elsa Pataky is married to Chris Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth, most recently making headlines for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor, married fellow actor Pataky in 2010. Pataky is from Spain and has worked as a model as well as an actor in films like Fast 5 and television series like Tidelands.
The couple had a whirlwind romance, marrying just three months after they were introduced to one another by a talent agent. They were on vacation with their families, and they figured there was no time like the present to take their relationship to the next level. They wed in Indonesia and have been happily together ever since.
Liam Hemsworth had a long relationship with Miley Cyrus
Meanwhile, Hemsworth’s little brother Liam Hemsowrth was having a tumultuous relationship with Miley Cyrus. The pair met around 2009 while filming the Nicholas Sparks film The Last Song and started dating while still on set. Shortly after they made their public debut as a couple, they briefly broke up, signaling the start of an on-again, off-again pattern that would define much of the next decade.
In early 2012, Cyrus took to social media to dispel engagement rumors, and then later that same year the pair really did get engaged. By 2013, though, they were facing darker rumors that the wedding had been called off.
The gossip was not helped by the fact that Cyrus was spotted many times without her ring. In September, the engagement was called off, and Cyrus pointed to her youth — she was only 19 when she said yes — as a key factor.
Both Hemsworth and Cyrus appeared to move on, but by 2015, rumors were swirling that the pair had reunited. Cyrus was also spotted hanging out with Pataky.
Not long after that, her old engagement ring made a reappearance, and fans were ecstatic that the marriage appeared to be back on. Years went by with relative peace and happiness for the couple despite a few rough spots (including losing their home to the California wildfires), but they stunned fans by secretly marrying in December of 2018.
What looked like a happy ending to a long courtship was not to be. By the summer of 2019, they had announced they were separating. Their lawyers announced an official settlement in December 2019, and the pair will each be officially divorced by March of 2020. Meanwhile, fans noticed that they’ve unfollowed one another on social media.
Elsa Pataky and Miley Cyrus got matching tattoos
Back when things were happier between Cyrus and Hemsworth, Pataky and Cyrus got matching tattoos. The briefly-sisters-by-marriage were marking their relationship to one another, and now divorce has permanently altered that relationship. Does Pataky regret that permanent move?
She and Cyrus each have a small wave symbol in black ink. Pataky says she recognizes that life changes and that the symbols of what used to be are still important to her.
“I don’t regret any of them, they’re symbols and I love having them and it reminds me of those moments,” she said.
While that sentiment might sound cheery, there are also signs that things are not quite so cozy between the one-time friends.
Speaking about the marriage and breakup, Pataky made it clear that she wants better for her brother-in-law. Considering that the pair were once so close, the revelation had to hurt.
