Dolly Parton is 75 years old, going on 76 Jan. 2022. But she has no plans of retiring or even slowing down in her career. In a recent interview she did, the “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” singer said she couldn’t slow down even if she wanted to.
Dolly Parton can’t slow down
Dolly Parton is always in the news. She’s always in the news because she stays busy. The Queen of Country has her rhinestoned nails in everything. In a recent interview with 10News, she explained why she “would never retire.”
“I can’t slow down,” she said. “That’s why I would never retire because I always make the statement that is so true, ‘that I’ve dreamed myself into a corner,’ and all my dreams have come true. Now I have to be responsible for all those things. So it requires a lot of work.”
The “Down From Dover” singer went on to say that she still loves working. It’s rewarding for her to “see all the new things that come from the dreams that had come true.”
The only reason Dolly Parton would ever ‘pull back’ from her career
In a 2018 interview with People, Parton echoed that shed “never once thought of retiring.”
“There’s a whole lot to be said for loving your work and having confidence in yourself,” she said.
But there is one reason the “Joshua” singer would pump the breaks on her career, and that’s if her husband, Carl Dean, needed her. She would “put him first.”
“I’ve always put myself first and my career first, but if something were to happen to him, I would pull back on that,” she said.
If there ever does come a day when Parton pulls back on her career to take care of Dean or someone else in her family, she says she’ll “still find a way to work, still find a way to be productive.”
The ‘Jolene’ singer’s fans keep her going
So what keeps Parton going then? Well, for one thing, she loves her fans. They energize and restore her.
“I love the fans,” she told USA Today. “I love that energy. It just really is restoring. You know when you’re first in love, how it energizes you? I get that from the fans. That’s a great empowering, restoring kind of energy. I think entertainers are addicted to that feeling. It’s … just knowing that you can do something to change somebody’s life or make somebody happy, even if it’s just for an evening.”
