Dolly Parton Knows Who Could Play Her in a Movie — and It Might Be More Than 1 Actor
In another addition to her endless stream of projects, Dolly Parton is making plans for a movie about her life. She shared that plans were underway before the coronavirus (COVID-19) but were pushed aside due to the pandemic. As restrictions ease, she’s back to making plans for a biopic, which requires a lead actor playing her. Parton shared one of her potential picks for the part and shared why more than one actor might be necessary.
Dolly Parton has shared who she doesn’t think should play her in a movie
Given Parton’s veritable rags to riches life story, many have wondered not if but when a biopic is coming. As people wait for the film, they’ve tossed around several potential names to portray Parton. One of these is Taylor Swift, who Parton does not think would be a good fit.
“Oh, she’s too tall for me, Lord have mercy,” Parton told Maclean’s, adding, “No, Taylor’s way too classy!”
Parton stands at 5 feet tall while Swift is 5 foot 11 inches.
“She’s like a supermodel,” Parton told PopSugar. “You’d have to saw her legs off at the knee.”
The singer gave her idea for the leading role in her biopic
In an appearance on the Mr. Nashville Talks radio show, Parton shared that the coronavirus derailed early plans for a Broadway musical about her life.
“I’ve been talking about doing my Broadway musical, and we were really, really way out ahead of that, and then COVID hit, and that changed my mind about a whole lot of things,” she said.
Now, she’s considering a feature film about her life.
“I do intend someday to be on Broadway, but I’m thinking now that I might do my life story as a feature,” she explained. “Maybe possibly even a musical feature, so we’re in talks about that.”
In the past, Parton has noted that people like Reese Witherspoon and Kristin Chenoweth were solid choices for the part. As the project has taken a long time, though, she worries that many actors have aged out of the role. Still, Parton has one clear option in mind to play the leading role: herself. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t space for other actors.
“You have to have at least two Dollys, well three Dollys really,” she explained. “You have to have the little Dolly, we’d have to have the medium one, and now that I’ve lived long enough to be older, I might play myself as my old self. I don’t know, but anyhow, there’s many ways to do it.”
Dolly Parton has already put out more than one movie about her life
Though Parton is planning the definitive biopic about her life, she has produced other films about herself. She has shared moments of her young life in films like Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors and Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love. Both films center around Parton’s family and her life as a child.
