Dolly Parton said she has a lot of confidence in herself

In the past, Parton has shared that she works hard to be the warm, happy personality she is to the public. Still, she believes that she has a “happy heart” and innate confidence.

“I have a lot of confidence in myself,” she said on The Ralph Emery Show, per the book Dolly on Dolly: Interviews and Encounters with Dolly Parton. “I have a lot of confidence in people. I think that, no matter what we are, we can be more. I think you have to be sure of what you can do. I know my limitations. I don’t like other people placing limitations on me. The things that I feel like I want and that I can do, I feel that I should get out and try. As a human being, I feel like I should find out what my purpose and reason is in life. I want to know that I have done everything that I can with all the things that God has given me. Otherwise, I feel like it would be a sin.”

She shared what always used to make her envious

Her confidence doesn’t mean that she’s entirely without insecurities, however. Parton reflected on a trait she used to want for herself.

“I have a life full of blessings, and I try to count them every day,” she told Redbook. “But I will say this: I always wanted long legs and got a little green with envy over some of the leggy women I would meet.”

Parton stands at five feet tall without shoes on. Because of this, she relies on towering heels to give her height, even when she isn’t in front of an audience.

“I actually do wear high heels most of the time,” she told Marie Claire. “They’re not always as high as the ones I wear for show. But I’m little. I’m short. And I have to wear heels in order to reach my cabinets. But I always enjoy wearing the shoes too, and I just feel more like me. But I can come down, though. I’m comfortable in my own skin; I’m comfortable with my image. I dress for myself more than I do for somebody else.”

Though Parton still wears her heels, she doesn’t feel the same envy for people with long legs.

“Now, I’m just glad I have two legs!” she said.

Dolly Parton feels that people should embrace their appearance

Parton has never been afraid to wear high heels or rhinestoned dresses because they make her feel comfortable. She encourages others to embrace the things that make them happy, even if they may not be considered fashionable.

“I just think everybody should base how they live in this world with what they’re comfortable with,” she told Glamour. “I may make some people uncomfortable with the way I look because of their ideas about fashion and beauty. But if I’m comfortable in myself, not only in my own skin but in my own clothes, then something’s going to radiate from me that’s going to make other people feel comfortable with me.”
