Dolly Parton’s Secrets for Being Beautiful Both Inside and Out

Dolly Parton often shares her beauty secrets with fans, even revealing that she does her hair and makeup on days when she “doesn’t feel like it.” Here’s what Parton said about saying beautiful both inside and out.

Parton is the singer-songwriter behind hits like “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You.” Since debuting on the music scene, the artist earned several Grammy Awards, performing in iconic outfits and big hair across the globe. 

Like Parton always says — the higher the hair, the closer to God. Outside of her music stardom, Parton is known for her perfectly teased blonde locks and flawless makeup, with drag performer Trixie Mattel noting that Parton often had to dress “in full drag” to gain recognition at the beginning of her career. 

Dolly Parton shared that she believes ‘true beauty comes from within’

Now 76 years old in 2022, Parton still puts effort into her outfits, hair, and makeup. She also shared some of her secrets to staying beautiful — a large portion of that deals with inner beauty more than outer beauty. 

“Well, I think true beauty comes from within, but the older you get, you got to try a little harder to do things,” Parton said during an interview with Access. “People often ask me, you know, what I do to stay young or look young… I’ve got good lighting, good makeup, and good doctors, which is all true.”

Parton is also open about her experience with cosmetic surgery. She also shared that she’s often wearing a wig and nails. Even with enhancements to her natural appearance, this singer disclosed that’s just one aspect of what makes someone beautiful.

“You can have all of that,” she continued. “But if you don’t like yourself, and if you don’t shine from the inside [or] if you don’t let your personality go along with whatever beauty you may have — whether it’s natural or painted on — you can make it real by being real.”

While Parton is often an advocate for inner beauty, this artist revealed her secrets for outer beauty with fans. In 2020, Parton partnered with Edge Beauty to create her own fragrance line, with the artist sharing that fragrance “always played a major role” in her life during a press release. 

The singer also emphasized the importance of confidence, whether a fan is wearing makeup or not. In the same interview, Parton shared that everyone “should take pride” in their outer appearance.

“[Not everybody wants] to wear a bunch of makeup, but I think you should take pride in how you look because it not only makes life a little better for the people around you,” she continued. “It makes you feel better, so even on days that I don’t feel like it, I put on a little bit of makeup and fix my hair a little bit. It makes me feel better.”
