Dominic West and His Wife Share Handwritten Note Assuring Everyone Their Marriage Is Fine After He’s Spotted With Lily James
Dominic West and his wife want you to know that their marriage is just fine. The Affair actor and his landscape designer spouse Catherine FitzGerald posed for photos outside their home on Oct. 13, just a day after the Daily Mail shared photos of West, 50, and actor Lily James, 31, spending time together in Rome. In the tabloid photos, West can be seen appearing to stroke the hair and leaning in to kiss the neck of the Downton Abbey actor.

The photos immediately triggered speculation that The Wire star was cheating on his wife with James, with whom he is set to star in an upcoming adaptation of The Pursuit of Love. But West and FitzGerald were quick to refute those rumors.
In a photo op for the press outside of their home in England, the couple kissed and handed over a handwritten note about the state of their relationship.
“Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together,” the note reads. It was signed by both West and FitzGerald.
West and FitzGerald have been married for a decade
West and his Irish aristocrat wife married in 2010 and have four children together ranging in age from 5 to 14. But their relationship actually began when they were both students at Trinity College in Dublin in the early ‘90s.
West has said in past interviews that he fell in love with his wife then, but that things didn’t work out. She married another man whom she later divorced. Afterward, she and West rekindled their romance.
Later, West reflected on his time in Ireland as a young man and the (at the time) one-sided romance with his wife. “Catherine thought very little of me and I thought everything of her, and little changed for 17 years, when I finally persuaded her to marry me,” he recalled in an essay included in a book about Trinity College in the 1990s (via the Sunday Independent).

James has been romantically linked to a number of actors in the past. She met Doctor Who’s Matt Smith in 2014, when they were filming Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, according to Us Weekly. The pair began dating and were together for several years but broke up at some point, with the Daily Mail claiming in early October that they had recently split for good.
In July 2020, James was spotted hanging out on multiple occasions with Captain America star Chris Evans. But in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the star of the upcoming Netflix film Rebecca declined to say if she and Evans were dating. Instead, she offered some advice to her younger self.
“Don’t be obsessed by boys! Hang out with your girl mates. And don’t take everything so seriously – be kind to yourself.”
