Donnie Wahlberg is saying goodbye to Blue Bloods for the final time.

The actor, who plays Danny Reagan on the CBS drama, recently took to social media to bid farewell to the show he’s starred in for the past 14 years.

Donnie Wahlberg is ‘incredibly thankful’ for his ‘Blue Bloods’ journey

Last fall, CBS announced that the 14th season of Blue Bloods would be the last for the show. The first half of the final season premiered in February and wrapped up in May, with the last eight episodes set to air in the fall of 2024.

Though it will still be a few more months before the Blue Bloods series finale airs, the end is already here for the show’s cast. On June 20, Wahlberg posted a video on Instagram of himself stepping off of the New Kids on the Block tour bus and onto the set for his final day of work on Blue Bloods.

“Last day of Blue Bloods,” he wrote. “Not sure I have the words to describe how I feel about today, or the last 14 years on this special Blue Bloods journey, but I do know how incredibly thankful I am for every moment of it.”

Blue Bloods focuses on the Reagans, an NYC law enforcement family. Patriarch Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) is the NYPD commissioner. His sons Danny and Jamie (Will Estes) are police officers, and his daughter Erin (Bridget Moynahan) is an assistant district attorney. In his Instagram post, Wahlberg paid tribute to New York City’s real-life police officers, as well as everyone who worked on the show.

“To the cast, the crew, the guest cast, every background actor, writer, producer and every member of every single dept — thank you,” he wrote. “To the people of New York, in every neighborhood and borough, thank you for always showing your love.”

“To the NYPD, thank you for your support and sacrifice, I hope we did you proud,” he added. “Lastly, to my fans, and the fans of this show. We don’t make it 14 days (nevermind 14 years) without you! Your love and support for this show has been one of the great blessings of my life. Thank you.”

Will ‘Blue Bloods’ be saved?

While Wahlberg and the rest of the Blue Bloods cast are moving on, several have hinted they’d be happy to continue working on the show. Earlier this year, Wahlberg told Andy Cohen (via People) that there were “rumblings” the show might continue. And Selleck has expressed bafflement at the cancellation.

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he recently told CBS Sunday Morning. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know.”

However, CBS execs have stayed firm in their decision to cancel the show

“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said at a press conference in May, Deadline reported. “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

However, it’s possible that Blue Bloods could live on in another form. An executive at Paramount recently told shareholders that a franchise extension is in the works.

Blue Bloods Season 14 Part 2 premieres in fall 2024 on CBS. All episodes of Blue Bloods are streaming on Paramount+.
